Wolbachia infection dynamics in a natural population of the pear psyllid Cacopsylla pyri (Hemiptera: Psylloidea) across its seasonal generations

Summary: This study investigated Wolbachia in three populations of Cacopsylla pyri in the Czech Republic. It was found that C. pyri harbored three new Wolbachia strains from supergroup B, and a fourth strain from supergroup A was also detected. The study also observed a high infection rate in female hosts, with stable Wolbachia density across different seasonal generations, while the density tended to decrease in males.

Foraging aggressiveness determines trophic niche in a generalist biological control species

Summary: There is growing evidence that consistent interindividual differences in behavior, known as behavioral types, play an important role in key ecological processes like predator-prey interactions, which in turn affect biological control. This study found that foraging aggressiveness is a key factor influencing prey selection of generalist predators, with more aggressive individuals having wider trophic niches. The multivariate nature of behavior did not form a behavioral syndrome, and only foraging aggressiveness had a significant impact on the prey selection and trophic niche breadth of the generalist agrobiont spider Philodromus cespitum.
