Mapping the use of knowledge in policymaking: barriers and facilitators from a subjectivist perspective (1990-2020)

Giliberto Capano et al.

Summary: The use of knowledge and evidence in policymaking is an important research topic. Existing research has focused on specific sectors and has not fully considered the complexity of policy making. This paper presents a systematic review that distinguishes between knowledge for policy making and knowledge in policy making, analyzing literature from 1990 to 2020. The study identifies values/ideology/beliefs, actors' relationships, and policy capacities as three key components that influence the use of knowledge in policymaking.

Bridging research and practice in conservation

Summary: The article discusses the need for improved evidence-based conservation practice and points out the current lack of evidence intermediary organizations. The authors argue that the lack of evidence bridges from research to practitioners contributes to evidence complacency and limits the use of evidence in conservation action.

Promoting inclusive metrics of success and impact to dismantle a discriminatory reward system in science

Sarah W. Davies et al.

Summary: Success and impact metrics in science are currently biased and perpetuate sexist and racist rewards. Shifting to a new value system based on principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion is essential, along with multidimensional mentorship and prioritizing mentee well-being. This paradigm shift in scientific values requires collaborative efforts and essential systemic changes supported by academic leaders and administrators.
