Nesfatin-1 Stimulates CCL2-dependent Monocyte Migration And M1 Macrophage Polarization: Implications For Rheumatoid Arthritis Therapy

Jun-Way Chang et al.

Summary: This study found that nesfatin-1 expression is increased in the synovial tissue of RA patients, and it promotes inflammation by regulating CCL2 expression and monocyte migration. Nesfatin-1 also promotes M1 macrophage polarization and the expression of proinflammatory cytokines.

The Influence of Adipokines on Radiographic Damage in Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases

Eric Toussirot

Summary: Inflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRDs) are characterized by chronic joint inflammation. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and spondyloarthritis (SpA), including axial SpA (ax SpA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA), are the most common forms of IRD. Adipokines, including leptin, adiponectin, visfatin, and resistin, play a role in the pathophysiology of IRDs. In RA, adiponectin and resistin contribute to structural damage, while leptin's role is controversial. In ax SpA, visfatin is associated with radiographic progression, while leptin and adiponectin have negative effects on progression.

Antcin K inhibits VEGF-dependent angiogenesis in human rheumatoid arthritis synovial fibroblasts

David Achudhan et al.

Summary: Antcin K, a phytosterol isolated from Antrodia cinnamomea, exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic activities that may have potential therapeutic effects in rheumatoid arthritis by suppressing VEGF expression and inhibiting endothelial progenitor cell migration and tube formation. Further research is needed to explore its effects in other angiogenesis-related disorders.

The Role Of BMPs in the Regulation of Osteoclasts Resorption and Bone Remodeling: From Experimental Models to Clinical Applications

Tatjana Bordukalo-Niksic et al.

Summary: Bone remodeling in the adult skeleton involves a continuous process of old and damaged bone removal by osteoclasts and subsequent new bone formation by osteoblasts. BMPs play a crucial role in maintaining healthy bone, affecting both bone formation and resorption, and may be involved in pathological processes related to inflammatory disorders affecting bones and joints.

Adipokines and Autoimmunity in Inflammatory Arthritis

Elena Neumann et al.

Summary: Adipokines are factors derived from adipose tissue that play a crucial role in metabolism and influence inflammation and other central processes in the body. In autoimmune diseases, adipokines are involved in inflammatory pathways that affect different cell types, contributing to conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. Changes in systemic adipokine levels suggest their potential as biomarkers for rheumatic diseases, particularly in the context of inflammatory arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis.
