Summary: Hemorrhagic shock leads to shedding of the glycocalyx from endothelial cells, with the greatest disruption observed in lung and intestine vessels. Reactive oxygen species levels were highest in these vessels, suggesting they are particularly susceptible to oxidative stress. These findings suggest that lung and intestine vessels may play a key role in the coagulopathy of trauma patients.
