Relations between family cohesion and adolescent-parent's neural synchrony in response to emotional stimulations

Summary: This study compared high and low family cohesion adolescent-parent dyads using EEG hyperscanning, and found that higher gamma interbrain synchrony was observed in the high family cohesion group compared to the low family cohesion group in positive conditions, while there was no significant difference between the two groups in other conditions. The high family cohesion group also showed significantly higher gamma interbrain synchrony in positive conditions compared to negative conditions, indicating that interbrain synchrony may play a role in parent-adolescent emotional bonding and family cohesion.

Adolescent social anxiety undermines adolescent-parent interbrain synchrony during emotional processing: A hyperscanning study

Summary: This study investigates how the social anxiety level of adolescents impacts interbrain synchrony within adolescent-parent dyads during emotional processing. The results show that high social anxiety adolescents and parents exhibit greater gamma interbrain synchrony in positive conditions, whereas low social anxiety adolescent-parent dyads show the opposite pattern. In negative conditions, low social anxiety dyads show greater gamma interbrain synchrony during the picture processing task compared to neutral conditions, while high social anxiety dyads exhibit greater synchrony in positive conditions than negative conditions. These findings suggest that the adolescent's anxiety level may influence the way they and their parents process different emotions together.
