Exploring the Effects of Parental Involvement on Broad and Specific Dimensions of Behavioral Problems in Adolescence

Rachel C. Davis et al.

Summary: This study investigated the unique associations between parental involvement and adolescent behavioral problems, finding that these associations were not explained by internalizing or externalizing problems. Parental involvement can be both protective and risk factors for different types of symptoms in adolescents.

Experiencing happiness together facilitates dyadic coordination through the enhanced interpersonal neural synchronization

Yangzhuo Li et al.

Summary: Experiencing positive emotions together facilitates interpersonal understanding and promotes subsequent social interaction. This study used functional near-infrared spectroscopy-based hyperscanning to discover that watching a happiness movie together leads to higher interpersonal neural synchronization, resulting in more effective coordination interaction during interpersonal cooperation tasks.

Relations between family cohesion and adolescent-parent's neural synchrony in response to emotional stimulations

Xinmei Deng et al.

Summary: This study compared high and low family cohesion adolescent-parent dyads using EEG hyperscanning, and found that higher gamma interbrain synchrony was observed in the high family cohesion group compared to the low family cohesion group in positive conditions, while there was no significant difference between the two groups in other conditions. The high family cohesion group also showed significantly higher gamma interbrain synchrony in positive conditions compared to negative conditions, indicating that interbrain synchrony may play a role in parent-adolescent emotional bonding and family cohesion.

Adolescent social anxiety undermines adolescent-parent interbrain synchrony during emotional processing: A hyperscanning study

Xinmei Deng et al.

Summary: This study investigates how the social anxiety level of adolescents impacts interbrain synchrony within adolescent-parent dyads during emotional processing. The results show that high social anxiety adolescents and parents exhibit greater gamma interbrain synchrony in positive conditions, whereas low social anxiety adolescent-parent dyads show the opposite pattern. In negative conditions, low social anxiety dyads show greater gamma interbrain synchrony during the picture processing task compared to neutral conditions, while high social anxiety dyads exhibit greater synchrony in positive conditions than negative conditions. These findings suggest that the adolescent's anxiety level may influence the way they and their parents process different emotions together.

Using a dyadic approach to explore parental support for physical activity among young cancer survivors

Jenson Price et al.

Summary: The study found that parental support for physical activity among adolescent and young adult cancer survivors is complex. Parents tend to focus on providing instrumental, informational, and emotional support, while survivors emphasize the importance of companionship support.

Psychological distress and parental involvement among adolescents in 67 low-income and middle-income countries: A population-based study

Summary: Adolescents with mental illnesses make up a significant proportion of young people globally. High levels of parental involvement are significantly associated with decreased likelihood of psychological distress in adolescents. Additionally, a country's purchasing power parity (PPP) is related to adolescents' psychological distress.

Human attachments shape interbrain synchrony toward efficient performance of social goals

Amir Djalovski et al.

Summary: The study found that human social attachments have a significant impact on neural and behavioral synchrony, especially when executing complex social goals, improving efficiency and conserving energy. Couple relationships demonstrate the highest levels of neural and behavioral synchrony, while strangers exhibit the opposite pattern.

Inter-subject Correlation While Listening to Minimalist Music: A Study of Electrophysiological and Behavioral Responses to Steve Reich's Piano Phase

Tysen Dauer et al.

Summary: The use of musical minimalism challenges listeners' expectations through small temporal and pitch deviations, prompting a hyper-detailed listening strategy. Research suggests that the inter-subject correlation (ISC) of EEG responses to natural audio-visual stimuli objectively indexes a state of engagement, providing insight into audience participation in music listening.

Summary: The study found that the impact of parents' pro-environmental behaviors on their children's PEBs depends on the extent to which children observe and communicate with their parents. Age and city differences may also affect the pro-environmental behaviors between parents and children.
