Volcanic rocks of the Elashan Formation in the Dulan-Xiangride Basin, East Kunlun Orogenic Belt, NW China: Petrogenesis and implications for Late Triassic geodynamic evolution

Xingzhu Fan et al.

Summary: The volcanic rocks of the Elashan Formation in the Dulan-Xiangride Basin during the Late Triassic exhibit characteristics of calc-alkaline I-type dacite, peraluminous rhyolites, and andesite formed from the partial melting of the Late Paleoproterozoic-Mesoproterozoic lower crust. The combination of new and previously obtained geological data suggests that the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt underwent three magmatic activities corresponding to three tectono-magmatic events during the Late Triassic, including slab breakoff and intense asthenosphere upwelling.

Petrogenesis of Late Devonian I- and A-type granitoids, and associated mafic microgranular enclaves in the northwestern North Qaidam Orogenic Belt, China: Implications for continental crust growth during the post-collisional stage

Maoqiang Yan et al.

Summary: The study of post-collisional magmatic intrusions and their mafic microgranular enclaves (MMEs) in the Niubiziliang batholith in China provides insights into granite petrogenesis, crust-mantle interaction, and the reworking of the continental crust. The composition and isotopic characteristics of both MMEs and host granites were found to be similar, indicating a common petrogenetic origin.

Geochronology, geochemistry, and Hf isotopic compositions of Triassic igneous rocks in the easternmost segment of the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt, NW China: implications for magmatism and tectonic evolution

Dong-Qian Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the geochronology and petrogenesis of igneous rocks in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt, revealing the unique geological characteristics and tectonic evolution of the Elashan area. The 238 Ma syenogranites, 236 Ma quartz monzodiorites, and 230 Ma appinites have distinct origins and formation processes, reflecting changes in tectonic environments and associated magmatic activities. These rocks were likely emplaced during syn-collisional slab break-off and initial post-collisional extensional settings.

Intermittent subduction of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean in the middle-late Permian: evidence from the mafic-intermediate intrusive rocks in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt

J. Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, the geochronology, geochemistry, zircon Lu-Hf isotopes, and Sr-Nd isotopes of mafic-intermediate intrusive rocks in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt (EKOB) of northwest China were investigated. The results suggest that gabbros and gabbrodiorites formed in the late Permian, with distinct characteristics indicating different mantle sources influenced by subducted slab fluids or melts. The transition in geodynamic settings from backarc extension to subduction during the late Permian was proposed based on the data synthesis.

Post-collisional mafic magmatism: Insights into orogenic collapse and mantle modification from North Qaidam collisional belt, NW China

Chen-Ao Zhou et al.

Summary: This study presents new geochronological and geochemical data for a suite of post-collisional mafic dykes in the North Qaidam ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic belt, distinguishing two groups of magmatic rocks and proposing a geodynamic model to explain the activities of the lithospheric and asthenospheric mantle during the post-collisional stage. The addition of juvenile mantle materials to the crust by the post-collisional mafic magmatism during this stage suggests an important period for continental growth in Earth's history.

Late Triassic Magma Mixing and Fractional Crystallization in the Qingchengzi Orefield, Eastern Liaoning Province: Regional Petrogenetic and Metallogenic Implications

Hongjing Xie et al.

Summary: The Qingchengzi orefield in NE China is an important Pb-Zn-Au-Ag polymetallic orefield formed during the Indosinian magmatism. The main suite and central suite in the orefield were formed by magma mixing and fractional crystallization, with the Xinling intrusion geochemically mimicking the main suite. The presence of mafic microgranular enclaves and lamprophyres suggest incomplete magma mixing during formation.
