The SPHERE view of three interacting twin disc systems in polarized light

Philipp Weber et al.

Summary: Dense stellar environments increase the likelihood of gravitational encounters among stellar systems during early stages of evolution, potentially leading to stellar interaction through various scenarios. Near-infrared polarized light observations of interacting twin-disc systems reveal spirals and connecting filaments. The analysis of polarized intensity and comparison with other data allows for the characterization of geometry and content of these systems, aiding the differentiation between dynamical scenarios.

Gaia Data Release 3 Summary of the content and survey properties

A. Vallenari et al.

Summary: The third data release of the Gaia mission includes a wide range of new data products, such as an expanded radial velocity survey and extensive astrophysical characterisation. This release provides unprecedented quantity, quality, and variety of source astrophysical data, including spectrophotometry, radial velocities, variables, and astrophysical parameters. It will greatly enhance the potential of Gaia's astrometric, photometric, and radial velocity surveys.

An APEX Study of Molecular Outflows in FUor-type Stars

Fernando Cruz-Saenz de Miera et al.

Summary: We conducted a survey of 20 FUor-type eruptive young stars observed with APEX, using (CO)-C-12(3-2), (CO)-C-13(3-2), and (CO)-C-12(4-3). We found that 11 of them exhibit molecular outflows, and these outflows are more massive and have a higher ratio of outflow mass to envelope mass compared to quiescent young stellar objects. This suggests that the eruptive young stars have lower star-forming efficiencies.

Filling in the gaps: can gravitationally unstable discs form the seeds of gas giant planets?

Hans Baehr

Summary: Circumstellar discs have a short window for planet formation through the gravitational collapse of dust, potentially explaining ring and gap structures observed in young discs. Dust growth to centimetre-sized particles can lead to efficient accretion of pebbles and the formation of planets within a few times 10(5) yr. This alternative planet formation process within massive discs can overcome traditional growth barriers and reduce the time-scale of planet formation.

Resolving the binary components of the outbursting protostar HBC 494 with ALMA

Pedro Henrique Nogueira et al.

Summary: This study observed a system called HBC 494 in the Orion Molecular Cloud, which consists of two separate disk-like structures called HBC 494 N and HBC 494 S. The disks are smaller in size and no circumbinary disk was detected. The observations also revealed the presence of bipolar gas outflows and a rotating and infalling envelope around the system.

Deuterium-enriched water ties planet-forming disks to comets and protostars

John J. Tobin et al.

Summary: Water is a crucial molecule in the formation of stars and planets, aiding the growth of solid material and the formation of planetesimals within disks. However, the water snowline and HDO:H2O ratio in proto-planetary disks have not been well understood. This study directly detects gas phase water in the disk of V883 Ori and finds that the midplane water snowline radius is approximately 80AU, similar to the scale of the Kuiper Belt. Additionally, the HDO:H2O ratio in the disk is comparable to that of protostellar envelopes and comets, exceeding that of Earth's oceans.

Alexandre Emsenhuber et al.

Summary: The study aims to understand the impacts of different physical processes and initial conditions on the demographics of planetary population. Results show that properties of giant planets remain stable with at least ten embryos in each system, while only populations with 100 embryos are able to reach the giant-impact stage for inner terrestrial planets.

A two-step gravitational cascade for the fragmentation of self-gravitating discs

Noe Brucy et al.

Summary: In this study, self-gravitating discs subject to an idealized cooling process were investigated using high-resolution simulations. The critical value of beta for disc fragmentation was found to be consistent with previous results, with a gradual reduction in the probability of fragment appearance as cooling becomes less effective. The study suggests a smooth transition between fragmented and unfragmented regimes, with a power law relationship between high column density and beta proposed.

Massive Compact Disks around FU Orionis-type Young Eruptive Stars Revealed by ALMA

A. Kospal et al.

Summary: FU Orionis-type objects (FUors) are low-mass pre-main-sequence stars experiencing significant increases in mass accretion rate. ALMA observations show that FUor disks have larger masses, smaller sizes, and a significant fraction may be gravitationally unstable compared to regular young stellar objects.
