On the peculiar rotational evolution of PSR B0950+08

Erbil Gugercinoglu et al.

Summary: The long-term rotational evolution of the old, isolated pulsar, PSR B0950+08, displays sinusoidal-like oscillations in its spin-down rate due to alternating variations in the second time derivative of the pulse frequency. This can be explained by the linear creep interaction between vortex lines and pinning sites in the pulsar, which is influenced by the large internal temperature to pinning energy ratio. The oscillatory spin-down rate can help constrain the radial extension of the closed magnetic field region in the outer core of neutron stars.

Low X-ray surface brightness clusters: implications on the scatter of the M-T and L-T relations

S. Andreon et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the scaling relations of a small but well-defined sample of galaxy clusters, including the recently discovered class of objects that are faint in X-ray emissions relative to their mass. These clusters have lower average X-ray surface brightness, gas fraction, and are either underestimated or completely absent in X-ray or SZ surveys. The study finds that the temperature-mass relation has an unprecedentedly large scatter, influenced by the clusters' surface brightness. However, the luminosity-temperature relation remains relatively tight regardless of brightness. The wide scatter difference between the two relations is attributed to the dominant effect of X-ray luminosity and temperature from small radii and gas thermodynamics, and the dominant effect of mass from dark matter at large radii.

Timing and evolution of PSR B0950+08

Hai-tao Huang et al.

Summary: This study presents timing solutions of PSR B0950+08 using 14 years of observations, and proposes a magnetic field decay model to explain the data. The results suggest that the spin and thermal evolution of pulsars should be studied simultaneously.

Long-term rotational and emission variability of 17 radio pulsars

B. Shaw et al.

Summary: This study revisits 17 radio pulsars previously shown to exhibit spin-down rate variations, confirming observed transitions and revealing new ones using Gaussian process regression. It confirms emission-correlated spin-down rate transitions in several sources and characterizes this correlation in one additional pulsar.

Initial periods and magnetic fields of neutron stars

Andrei P. Igoshev et al.

Summary: This study rigorously analyzes the properties of young neutron stars associated with supernova remnants and provides insights into the initial distributions of pulsar periods and magnetic fields. The results show that the distributions of magnetic fields and periods for radio pulsars can be described by the lognormal distribution, while magnetars and central compact objects have different distributions. Moreover, the normal distribution is not sufficient to describe the initial period distribution of neutron stars, and the parameters of this distribution are not sensitive to the exact value of the braking index.

Radio pulsar sub-populations (II): The mysterious RRATs

Abhishek et al.

Summary: The RRAT population is statistically uncorrelated with nulling pulsars, and unlikely to be related to old age or death-line proximity. It is more likely that the special emission property of RRATs is a signature of them being later evolutionary phases of other types of neutron stars.

State-switching Mechanism of Intermittent Pulsars

Abdujappar Rusul et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the polar-cap parameters of intermittent pulsars almost reach their maximum values, consistent with the main prediction of the pulsar polar-cap theory regarding the breaking of radio emission. Additionally, intermittent pulsars are distributed near the dipole death line in the P-(P)over dot diagram, in line with their emission features and calculated polar-cap parameters.
