Swift Deep Galactic Plane Survey classification of Swift J170800-402551.8 as a candidate intermediate polar cataclysmic variable

B. O'Connor et al.

Summary: In this paper, we present the results of a multiwavelength campaign aimed at classifying Swift J170800-402551.8. By utilizing various observatories and archival data, we identified the periodicity and X-ray spectrum of the source, as well as studied its multiwavelength counterpart. Based on our findings, we classify Swift J170800-402551.8 as a candidate intermediate polar cataclysmic variable with a spin period of 784 seconds.

Hard X-ray luminosity functions of cataclysmic variables: joint Swift IBAT and Gaia data

Valery F. Suleimanov et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the sample of CVs detected in the all-sky hard X-ray Swift/BAT survey, combined with the data from Gaia for reliable distance estimates. The study reveals that CVs emitting in hard X-rays are the main source of extended hard X-ray emission in the central Galactic regions and Galactic ridge. The analysis further confirms the existence of two populations of hard X-ray-emitting CVs.

ARIADNE: measuring accurate and precise stellar parameters through SED fitting

Jose Vines et al.

Summary: The researchers introduced a new code, ARIADNE, which uses Bayesian Model Averaging to accurately measure stellar parameters by incorporating information from multiple stellar models. ARIADNE produces results that are in excellent agreement with interferometric measurements across a wide range of stellar parameters. There is a need for further improvements in modeling stars with radii smaller than 0.4-0.5 R-circle dot.

Searching for Cataclysmic Variable Stars in Unidentified X-Ray Sources

J. Takata et al.

Summary: We conducted a photometric search and identified eight potential cataclysmic variable star candidates, including six new identifications, two eclipsing systems associated with unidentified X-ray sources, and one promising candidate for polar association.

Summary: This study reports observations of five short-period polars over a 30-year period, providing details on their orbital ephemerides, magnetic field strengths, accretion features, and luminosities. Variations in accretion features among these polars support the hypothesis that different mean accretion rates apply for different subgroups of short-period polars and nonmagnetic cataclysmic variables.

Estimating Distances from Parallaxes. V. Geometric and Photogeometric Distances to 1.47 Billion Stars in Gaia Early Data Release 3

C. A. L. Bailer-Jones et al.

Summary: Stellar distances are essential in astrophysics, and the publication of 1.47 billion stellar parallaxes from Gaia significantly contributes to this field. Despite challenges with faint or distant stars, a probabilistic approach using a three-dimensional model of the Galaxy has been developed to estimate geometric and photogeometric distances. Photogeometric estimates generally show higher accuracy and precision compared to geometric distances, especially for stars with poor parallaxes, and are provided in a publicly available catalog.

GALEXTIN: an alternative online tool to determine the interstellar extinction in the Milky Way

Eduardo B. Amores et al.

Summary: Estimates of interstellar extinction are crucial in astronomical research, but existing maps and models present challenges due to differences in programming languages, user interfaces, and input/output formats. To address this issue, the tool GALEXTIN has been developed to estimate interstellar extinction based on available 3D models/maps and 2D maps. Users simply need to provide coordinate lists and select a model/map to obtain extinction estimates.
