Neutron-capture elements in NGC 6752 multiple populations

J. Schiappacasse-Ulloa et al.

Summary: Globular clusters have been extensively studied for their light element variations, but the source of pollution is still debated. This study analyzes heavy elements and their relation to light ones to explore the contribution of different stellar masses to cluster pollution. The results show no clear relations between light s-process elements (Y ii) or heavy elements (Ba ii) with light elements (Li, Na, or Al), suggesting that the polluter(s) responsible for Na (Al) or Li production do not produce significant amounts of Y ii and Ba ii. Models also exclude a significant contribution from AGB stars with masses lower than 5 M-circle dot, and a possible CH star is found in the sample.

Metallicity of the globular cluster NGC 6388 based on high-resolution spectra of more than 160 giant stars

Eugenio Carretta et al.

Summary: NGC 6388 is one of the most massive Galactic globular clusters with rich metal content. The analysis of spectroscopic observations of 185 stars in this cluster revealed consistent radial velocities and iron abundances, indicating the absence of significant intrinsic metallicity spread. Additionally, the classification of NGC 6388 as a type-II globular cluster based on the presence of "anomalous red giants" is questioned.

Robust statistical tools for identifying multiple stellar populations in globular clusters in the presence of measurement errors A case study: NGC 2808

G. Valle et al.

Summary: This study explores the analysis methods for multiple stellar populations in globular clusters, using NGC 2808 as a case study. By employing established statistical clustering methods and addressing the issue of measurement errors, the results obtained differ from those reported in previous literature. The findings suggest that the existence of multiple populations is reliable in high-resolution spectroscopy data, but questionable in low-resolution spectroscopy data. Additionally, it is revealed that the commonly used histogram analysis is prone to generating false-positive findings. Therefore, the use of statistically grounded methods is crucial for conducting more robust and reproducible research.

The COMBS Survey - III. The chemodynamical origins of metal-poor bulge stars

Madeline Lucey et al.

Summary: The characteristics of metal-poor stars in the Galactic bulge reveal a higher chemical complexity in the inner and outer bulge populations compared to the halo population, suggesting a greater diversity of nucleosynthetic events. With detailed stellar parameter analysis and elemental abundance studies, stars in the inner Galaxy are categorized into four groups based on kinematic and spatial properties, representing different Galactic structures.

The in situ origin of the globular cluster NGC 6388 from abundances of Sc, V, and Zn of a large sample of stars

Eugenio Carretta et al.

Summary: Chemical tagging of globular clusters (GCs) is commonly done using alpha-elements, but a new method involving iron-peak elements shows promise. The abundance ratios of iron-peak elements in NGC 6388 are similar to field stars, suggesting no association with accretion. However, the new method seems effective in picking up GCs related to the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy, although further verification is needed to determine its generality for accreted GCs.

Evidence from APOGEE for the presence of a major building block of the halo buried in the inner Galaxy

Danny Horta et al.

Summary: Evidence from APOGEE suggests the presence of a new metal-poor stellar structure near the Galactic Center, possibly associated with an accretion event in the early Milky Way. This structure, termed the Inner Galaxy Structure (IGS), displays chemical composition similarities to low-mass Milky Way satellites and is dynamically detached from more metal-rich populations in the inner Galaxy. Comparisons with cosmological simulations indicate a progenitor system for the IGS with a stellar mass approximately double that of the Gaia-Enceladus/Sausage system. The ratio of accreted to in situ stars within the metal-poor bulge sample is estimated to be between 1:3 and 1:2, in line with predictions from various cosmological numerical simulations.
