Variations in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Outpatient Care in Respiratory Clinics: Results From the 2021 EPOCONSUL Audit

Myriam Calle Rubio et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to describe the results of the clinical audit conducted in 2021 and compare them with the 2015 EPOCONSUL audit. The 2021 audit showed increased adherence to recommendations, but there was no significant improvement in clinical evaluation and therapeutic intervention. This suggests the need for more resources to improve the quality of care.

Blood Eosinophil Counts and Their Variability and Risk of Exacerbations in COPD: A Population-Based Study

Marc Miravitlles et al.

Summary: There is controversy regarding the role of blood eosinophil levels as a biomarker of exacerbation risk in COPD. The study found that there is no reliable threshold of blood eosinophilia to discriminate an increased risk of exacerbations, although in some patients with high variability, blood eosinophil count may be more associated with exacerbation risk.

Changes in Control Status of COPD Over Time and Their Consequences: A Prospective International Study

Marc Miravitlles et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the short-term prognostic value of control status in COPD patients. The results showed that persistently controlled patients were more likely to be male, have lower body mass index, and during the following 6 months, uncontrolled patients had significantly increased risks of moderate exacerbations and hospitalizations.

Treatment Pathways Before and After Triple Therapy in COPD A Population-based Study in Primary Care in Spain

Monica Monteagudo et al.

Summary: The study indicates that Triple Therapy (TT) is extensively used in primary care for COPD patients, with the majority of patients being non-exacerbators. Patients tend to continue on the same treatment over time regardless of disease severity, with more frequent stepping down for severe patients and more common discontinuation among mild patients.
