Obesity Without Metabolic Abnormality and Incident CKD: A Population-Based British Cohort Study

Jingya Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that metabolically healthy obesity and overweight are associated with an increased risk of incident chronic kidney disease in a British primary care population. This association was stronger in those under 65 years old and there was a greater risk of CKD with a greater number of metabolic abnormalities in all BMI categories.

Causes and Risk Factors of Repeated Hospitalization among Patients with Diabetic Retinopathy

Yu Xiao et al.

Summary: The study retrospectively analyzed the causes and risk factors of repeated hospitalization among patients with diabetic retinopathy. Macular edema and vitreous hemorrhage were the most common causes of readmission, and younger patients with medical insurance and local residence had a higher risk of repeated hospitalization. Patients readmitted for vitreous hemorrhage, proliferative membrane formation, and retinal detachment had longer hospital stays and higher hospitalization costs.

Metabolic obesity phenotypes: a friend or foe of digestive polyps?-An observational study based on National Inpatient Database

Yiping Cheng et al.

Summary: The study found that individuals with metabolically unhealthy and obese phenotypes had a significantly higher prevalence of digestive polyps compared to those with metabolically healthy and obese phenotypes, especially in the total or female population. The association between metabolic obesity phenotypes and the occurrence of digestive polyps may be more important than obesity status itself.

Once-Weekly Semaglutide in Adolescents with Obesity

Daniel Weghuber et al.

Summary: This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial found that once-weekly treatment with a 2.4-mg dose of semaglutide plus lifestyle intervention resulted in a greater reduction in BMI than lifestyle intervention alone among adolescents with obesity.

Strategies to Reduce Rehospitalization in Patients with CKD and Kidney Failure

Simit Doshi et al.

Summary: Readmissions in patients with CKD and kidney failure are common and linked to negative outcomes. Interventions such as early follow-up care, volume management, nutrition optimization, palliative care consultations, systematic care planning, and protocols for cardiovascular conditions may help prevent avoidable readmissions.

Type 2 Diabetes and HbA1c Predict All-Cause Post-Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Hospital Readmission

Elisa Morales-Marroquin et al.

Summary: The analysis aimed to determine if type 2 diabetes and HbA1c levels predict 30-day hospital readmission after metabolic and bariatric surgery. Results showed uncontrolled type 2 diabetes is associated with increased readmission and reduced weight loss post MBS. Additionally, type 2 diabetes and prediabetes were also linked to decreased weight loss after MBS.

Predictors of Rehospitalization and Mortality in Diabetes-Related Hospital Admissions

Milena Koziol et al.

Summary: This study identified risk factors for rehospitalization and death in diabetes-related hospital admissions through a population-based retrospective epidemiological survey. The study found that factors such as younger age, male sex, prior hospitalization due to acute diabetic complications, weight loss, and kidney failure increased the risk of rehospitalization, while factors such as older age, neoplastic disease, weight loss, and heart failure increased the risk of death.

Magnitude and predictors of hospital admission, readmission, and length of stay among patients with type 2 diabetes at public hospitals of Eastern Ethiopia: a retrospective cohort study

Lemma Demissie Regassa et al.

Summary: The study assessed predictors of hospital admission, readmission rates, and length of hospital stay among Type 2 Diabetes patients in government hospitals in Eastern Ethiopia from 2013 to 2017. Results showed that multiple factors contributed to high admission and readmission rates as well as longer in-hospital duration among T2D patients in the Harari region.
