The effect of cognitive stimulation on the progression of cognitive impairment in subjects with Alzheimer's disease

Carolina Lopez et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to examine the impact of a cognitive stimulation intervention model on patients with mild-moderate Alzheimer's disease using a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment. The study found that the intervention maintained the cognitive performance of the patients in the experimental group in terms of comprehension, visual reproduction copy, and word list recognition, while the control group showed a deterioration in these functions within a 6-month period.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of a cognitive stimulation program on cognitive performance, anxiety, depression, and quality of life in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) aged > 70. The results showed that a 12-week cognitive stimulation program improved cognitive performance, anxiety, depression, and health-related quality of life in individuals with MCI aged > 70.

Attentional network changes in subjective cognitive decline

Mahdieh Esmaeili et al.

Summary: The study investigated the performance of attention networks in older individuals with subjective memory complaint and MCI, finding that despite similar performance in the orienting network, the SCD group performed poorly in the alerting and executive control networks. The differences in executive control network performance were explained by age-related slowing. The results suggest that attention processing problems, especially in maintaining alerting, may be helpful in diagnosing individuals at risk for cognitive disorders.

A feasibility randomised control trial of individual cognitive stimulation therapy for dementia: impact on cognition, quality of life and positive psychology

Luke Gibbor et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility and effects of a 14-session individual Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (iCST) program for people with dementia, showing improvements in cognition but no significant impact on quality of life and positive psychology. A larger randomized controlled trial is needed to fully assess the intervention's impact on cognition, as well as quality of life and positive psychology.

How are people with mild cognitive impairment or subjective memory complaints managed in primary care? A systematic review

Brendan Hallam et al.

Summary: Primary care professionals are more likely to provide non-pharmacological strategies, such as increasing physical activity, cognitive stimulation, and social stimulation, than prescribing drug treatments. The quality of evidence in the included studies is low and observational research is needed to accurately reflect how people with memory problems are managed in primary care.
