Elemental Variability of PM2.5 Aerosols in Historical and Modern Areas of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Mohammed A. Amin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the atmospheric PM2.5 particles in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and analyzed their sources. The results showed that the air quality in Jeddah exceeded the standards set by the European Commission and the World Health Organization. Elemental analysis revealed the origin of different elements, including natural sources, anthropogenic sources, and sea spray.

Source Apportionment and Assessment of Air Quality Index of PM2.5-10 and PM2.5 in at Two Different Sites in Urban Background Area in Senegal

Moustapha Kebe et al.

Summary: Identifying PM sources is crucial for assessing its effects on human health. This study in Dakar, Senegal used elemental composition and carbon content data to identify four PM sources. The study also estimated the air quality index and found that transported dust from desert regions has a significant impact on PM concentration.

Synchrotron X-ray fluorescence and X-ray absorption near edge structure of low concentration arsenic in ambient air particulates†

Abdallah A. Shaltout et al.

Summary: Arsenic poses a significant risk to human health, primarily through exposure via drinking water, food, and inhalation of air. Advanced X-ray synchrotron radiation techniques are crucial for accurate monitoring and research of arsenic in the environment. High concentrations of arsenic were found in total suspended particulates from industrial areas, while low concentrations were observed in PM2.5 aerosols, impacting the speciation of arsenic in different oxidation states.
