A new analytical model for evaluating the time-varying mesh stiffness of helical gears in healthy and spalling cases

Xiao Wu et al.

Summary: Accurately evaluating the time-varying mesh stiffness (TVMS) of helical gears with tooth spalls with curved-bottom features is crucial for gear vibration dynamic simulation. The proposed method in this paper corrects foundation stiffness errors and considers the influence of axial mesh forces, showing effectiveness in modeling tooth spalls with curved-bottom features for helical gears.

Dynamic modeling of the gear-rotor systems with spatial propagation crack and complicated foundation structure

Kangkang Chen et al.

Summary: Considering both spatial crack fault and complex foundation structure, this study establishes a dynamic finite element model and multi-body dynamic model to analyze the dynamic characteristics of gear-rotor systems. The research uses the extended finite element method to simulate the three-dimensional crack propagation paths of spur gears under partial load, calculates the mesh stiffness of spur gears with the spatial crack and complex foundation using the proposed three-dimensional loaded tooth contact analysis (3D-LTCA) method, and verifies the results with the finite element method. The dynamic responses of the gear-rotor system under different crack levels are analyzed, and the advantages and disadvantages of these two dynamic models are evaluated. The study finds that the 3D-LTCA can accurately consider the influence of complex foundation and spatial crack on mesh stiffness, and the finite element model and multi-body dynamic model can effectively analyze the influence of crack fault and foundation structure on dynamic responses.

Computational study of pitting defect influence on mesh stiffness for straight beveloid gear

Ruihua Sun et al.

Summary: This study introduces an efficient slice-based mesh stiffness modeling method for straight beveloid gear pair, considering the deformation of tooth fillet and transient curve part to improve calculation accuracy. Results show that the size and location of pitting defects significantly affect mesh stiffness, while the distance between pitting corrosion center and transverse plane has little influence on mesh stiffness.

Wei Chen et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of tooth surface wear on gear mesh stiffness, considering wear evolution process. Numerical results show that wear can lead to significant reductions in mesh stiffness, and the mean decrease of stiffness is almost proportional to the maximum tooth wear in the initial wear evolution process.

Summary: A dynamic model for thin-rimmed helical gears is established considering flexibility of gear foundations and rotational effects, using Timoshenko beam elements and Mindlin-Reissner shell elements. The model is verified through comparison with experimental results and discusses the effects of various factors on dynamic behaviors. The results show differences between traditional and proposed models, emphasizing the importance of flexible body modeling.

Evaluation model of mesh stiffness for spur gear with tooth tip chipping fault

Yinghui Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, failure models of tooth tip chipping for both internal gear and external gear are established by means of analytic geometry method. The fracture curve equation is derived using analytic geometry method, and the mesh stiffness of the fault gear is derived via potential energy method and verified by the finite element method. The proposed model can accurately evaluate the mesh stiffness of gears with tooth tip chipping, and the modeling method can also be applied to other fault types.
