LncRNA Neat1 promotes the macrophage inflammatory response and acts as a therapeutic target in titanium particle-induced osteolysis

Sipeng Lin et al.

Summary: Aseptic loosening (AL) is a major cause of artificial joint failure, and long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) Neat1 plays a key role in regulating particle-induced osteolysis. This study reveals that Neat1 affects osteolysis by activating the NF KB pathway, NLRP3 inflammation, and M1 polarization, and it also regulates BTK expression through anti-miRNA activity in the post-transcriptional stage, offering a novel strategy for the treatment of osteolysis.

Designing strategies of small-molecule compounds for modulating non-coding RNAs in cancer therapy

Rongyan Zhao et al.

Summary: Non-coding RNA (ncRNA) is a class of RNA molecules transcribed from the genome but not encoding proteins. Recent studies have shown that ncRNAs can be druggable targets for cancer therapy due to their complex spatial structures and biological functions. This review summarizes new designing strategies, such as high-throughput screening and structure-based designing, and highlights representative small-molecule compounds that modulate or selectively target ncRNAs in different types of human cancers.

LncRNA IFITM4P promotes immune escape by up-regulating PD-L1 via dual mechanism in oral carcinogenesis

Linjun Shi et al.

Summary: This study found that the long non-coding RNA IFITM4P is highly expressed in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), and its overexpression or knockdown can respectively increase or decrease cell proliferation. IFITM4P is involved in regulating the activation of an immunosuppressive program through different mechanisms in the cytoplasm and nucleus, and tumors with high IFITM4P expression show notable therapeutic sensitivity to PD-1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatment.

RNA-Seq Analysis of the Key Long Noncoding RNAs and mRNAs Related to the Regulation of Acute Heat Stress in Rainbow Trout

Chang-Qing Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that rainbow trout exhibit enhanced behavior, antioxidant capacity, and natural immune function in the early stages of acute heat stress, but their stress resistance decreases with increased stress intensity and duration. Non-coding RNAs play a significant role in regulating heat stress in rainbow trout, influencing metabolism, apoptosis, and immune regulation. Analysis identified key lncRNA-mRNA pairs essential for regulating acute heat stress in rainbow trout, providing insights for breeding heat-resistant varieties.

Immune responses and acute inflammation in common carp Cyprinus carpio injected by E.coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as affected

Thi Mai Nguyen et al.

Summary: Eicosanoids, resolvins, and lipoxins, the lipid mediators formed from long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs), play crucial roles in inflammatory processes and can be influenced by dietary lipid sources. This study found that plant oils can modify the immune and inflammatory responses in fish, with a mixture of plant oils or LC-PUFA-supplemented diets enhancing anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective responses.

RASAL3 Is a Putative RasGAP Modulating Inflammatory Response by Neutrophils

Suguru Saito et al.

Summary: RASAL3, a RasGAP highly expressed in neutrophils, negatively regulates cellular activity and modulates inflammatory response. Lack of RASAL3 leads to enhanced neutrophil responses, immune activation, and accelerated mortality in acute inflammatory conditions. RASAL3 has therapeutic potential in regulating excessive inflammation in sepsis and various inflammatory diseases.

The emerging regulatory roles of noncoding RNAs in immune function of fish: MicroRNAs versus long noncoding RNAs

Haitham G. Abo-Al-Ela

Summary: ncRNAs play crucial roles in regulating and controlling cellular processes and trafficking pathways, with lncRNAs having more diverse regulatory functions compared to microRNAs. Studies in fish have highlighted the potential of harnessing these RNA types to further understand biology and utilize technologies such as RNA interference and microRNA delivery for applications in aquaculture productivity, fish health, and overall understanding of fish biology.

Bisphenol A and genistein have opposite effects on adult chicken ovary by acting on ERα/Nrf2-Keap1-signaling pathway

Zhangshan Gao et al.

Summary: The study showed that typical environmental estrogens BPA and GEN have different toxicological mechanisms on adult ovary. BPA at a lower dose reduced egg production and disrupted redox homeostasis, while GEN significantly improved ovary antioxidant capacity. Furthermore, BPA and GEN have opposite regulatory effects on the Nrf2-Keap1 pathway through ERα modulation.

A novel lncRNA linc-AhRA negatively regulates innate antiviral response in murine microglia upon neurotropic herpesvirus infection

Yiliang Wang et al.

Summary: The lncRNA linc-AhRA is identified as a negative regulator of I-IFN production in microglia, which limits the antiviral immune response against neurotropic herpesvirus infection by facilitating TBK1 degradation. The study highlights the crucial role of lncRNA conserved fragments in the innate antiviral response, providing potential for developing nucleotide drugs based on these functional fragments.
