Immunity of the intestinal mucosa in teleost fish

Michal Stosik et al.

Summary: The paper discusses the issue of intestinal mucosa immunity in teleost fish. The organization and functional properties of the elements that determine this immunity are reviewed according to current data. The knowledge of intestinal mucosal immunity in teleost fish has great potential for practical applications in the field of epidemiological safety.

Histopathological damage and stress- and immune-related genes' expression in the intestine of common carp, Cyprinus carpio exposed to copper and polyvinyl chloride microparticle

Seyyed Morteza Hoseini et al.

Summary: The study found that exposure to copper and/or MPVC can cause intestinal histopathological damage and upregulation of stress- and immune-related genes' expression in fish, with the most severe effects observed in the Cu-MPVC treatment group. This suggests potential additive effects of copper and MPVC, as well as higher copper accumulation in this combined treatment.

Alteration of gut microbiota composition and function of Indian major carp, rohu (Labeo rohita) infected with Argulus siamensis

Hemanta Kumar Mondal et al.

Summary: The study found that Argulus infection significantly affects the diversity and richness of intestinal microbiota in rohu fish, with an enrichment of Actinobacteria and Patescibacteria. Infected fish showed a higher number of unique genera compared to healthy fish, with significant increases in certain genera like Stenotrophomonas and Pirellula, and a decrease in Reyranella. The composition and function of the gut microbiota were positively associated, and the predicted function in infected fish suggested an enrichment in the synthesis of chitinases, chitin binding proteins, osmoprotectant proteins, and sulfatases enzymes.

Probiotics ameliorate growth retardation of glyphosate by regulating intestinal microbiota and metabolites in crucian carp (Carassius auratus)

Biao Yan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impacts of glyphosate (GLY) on crucian carp and the potential protective roles of two commonly used aquaculture probiotics. Results showed that GLY exposure caused growth retardation, reduced fat content, and altered gut microbiota composition and metabolism of the fish. However, the addition of the probiotics effectively attenuated these adverse effects. This study provides novel evidence for the potential application of probiotics in reducing the health risks of GLY in aquatic environments.

Effect of supplementation of solid-state fermentation product of Bacillus subtilis HGcc-1 to high-fat diet on growth, hepatic lipid metabolism, epidermal mucus, gut and liver health and gut microbiota of zebrafish

Anran Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of solid-state fermentation product of Bacillus subtilis HGcc-1 supplementation in a high-fat diet on zebrafish. The results showed that HGcc-1 supplementation decreased hepatic lipid deposition, enhanced epidermal mucus immunity, improved liver and intestine health, and modified gut microbiota homeostasis in zebrafish.

Effects of acute deltamethrin exposure on kidney transcriptome and intestinal microbiota in goldfish (Carassius auratus)

Shun Zhou et al.

Summary: Exposure to deltamethrin induced apoptosis and immunotoxicity in goldfish kidneys and altered the composition of the intestinal microbiota in goldfish. The study provides a comprehensive analysis of the adverse effects of deltamethrin exposure on goldfish and sheds light on the toxicological mechanisms of deltamethrin in fish.

Toxic, physiological, histomorphological, growth performance and antiparasitic effects of copper sulphate in fish aquaculture

Marcos Tavares-Dias

Summary: This paper presents the current knowledge on the use of copper sulphate in freshwater and marine fish farming, focusing on its toxicity, growth performance, physiology, immunity, histomorphology, and antiparasitic treatment effects. The review highlights the wide variability in acute toxicity levels among different fish species and the sensitivity of many species to concentrations required for parasite control. Additionally, the paper discusses the potential strategies for using copper sulphate in fish farming.

Effects of deoxynivalenol-contaminated diet on the composition and diversity of the intestinal microbial community and intestinal ultrastructure of juvenile largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides)

Yingying Yu et al.

Summary: The study found that the high DON experimental group had higher diversity and abundance of intestinal microbiota at phyla and genera levels compared to the control group. The relative abundance of Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Bacteroidetes at the phyla level significantly increased in the high DON group, while Fusobacteria decreased. The dominant genera in high DON treatments were different from the control and low DON groups.
