Is the aquaculture industry in the Czech Republic financially healthy? A company-level analysis

Simulation of the impacts of the proposed direct payment scheme-The case of the Czech Republic

Summary: The draft Strategic plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the Czech Republic has caused dissatisfaction among many agriculture entrepreneurs due to increased redistributive payments. Critics argue that this will negatively impact medium-sized companies, which constitute a significant portion of the agriculture sector in the country. Our study found that farms larger than 313 ha will experience a reduction in direct payments, and payments will fall below 85% of the average for farms over 873 ha, potentially affecting 50% of agricultural land in the Czech Republic.

The Covid-19 impacts on the European Union aquaculture sector

Data from Denmark and Spain show moderate to no impacts of Covid-19 on aquaculture production, except for turbot prices.

A conceptual framework for risk management in aquaculture

Summary: Aquaculture is a high-risk industry with little attention given to risk sources in research. This study provides a framework of the main risk sources perceived by aquaculture producers, integrating empirical evidence from different countries and productions. The framework consists of eight risk categories, 19 risk types, and 40 risk sources. Producers tend to underestimate important risks such as regulatory or financial ones. The framework is valuable for policy makers, producers, scientists, and stakeholders in addressing the first step of risk management and governance - the identification of risk sources.

Summary: Current dietary recommendations on fish consumption for cardiovascular disease prevention emphasize the importance of fatty fish, specifically for the cardioprotective effects of n-3 PUFAs. Recent data suggests that fatty fish, but not lean fish, can contribute to CVD prevention. By evaluating fish consumption limited to fatty fish from an environmental perspective, the study found that focusing on small blue fish consumption could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to fish consumption in Europe.

Accelerating pond aquaculture development and resilience beyond COVID: Ensuring food and jobs in Ghana

Summary: In the past decade, Ghana's aquaculture sector has seen tremendous growth, mainly driven by large-scale cage aquaculture. Despite wide variability in profits, the majority of farmers have experienced positive returns, particularly those who adopt good aquaculture practices and increase production. The cost of producing 1 kg of tilapia in Ghana is higher than in other major tilapia-producing countries, and the COVID crisis has had a significant impact on fish farmers, although prices have slowly rebounded by the end of 2020.

Are the Agricultural Subsidies Based on the Farm Size Justified? Empirical Evidence from the Czech Republic
