Synergistic Fe-Se Atom Pairs as Bifunctional Oxygen Electrocatalysts Boost Low-Temperature Rechargeable Zn-Air Battery

Yao Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, bifunctional electrocatalysts, Fe-Se/NC, were successfully constructed by synthesizing atomically dispersed Fe-Se atom pairs supported on N-doped carbon. The obtained Fe-Se/NC exhibited remarkable bifunctional oxygen catalytic performance with a low potential difference of 0.698 V, surpassing that of previously reported Fe-based single-atom catalysts. Theoretical calculations revealed that the p-d orbital hybridization around the Fe-Se atom pairs resulted in significantly asymmetrical polarized charge distributions. Moreover, Fe-Se/NC-based solid-state rechargeable Zn-air batteries demonstrated superior cycling and stability compared to the traditional Pt/C+Ir/C catalysts, even at extremely low temperatures.

Regulating single-atom distance in carbon electrocatalysts for efficient oxygen reduction reaction via conjugated microporous polymer precursors strategy

Hongyu Zuo et al.

Summary: In this study, a special polymer was used as the precursor for the catalyst and successfully synthesized single-atom oxygen reduction reaction catalysts with different numbers of FeN4 active centers. The results showed that the higher the density of FeN4 sites in the catalyst, the higher the efficiency in the oxygen reduction reaction.

Summary: This study reports the preparation of non-metal Se single atoms embedded in nitrogen-doped carbon for efficient electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The obtained single-atom catalyst exhibits outstanding activity and stability, surpassing noble metal catalysts and many nanocatalysts. Experimental and theoretical calculations demonstrate that Se single atoms serve as active sites for ORR and contribute to lowering the reaction barrier.

Fe3C-Assisted Single Atomic Fe Sites for Sensitive Electrochemical Biosensing

Xiaoqian Wei et al.

Summary: The rational construction of advanced sensing platforms to sensitively detect H2O2 produced by living cells is a challenge in both physiological and pathological fields. Single atomic site catalysts (SASCs) with intrinsic peroxidase (POD)-like activity have shown great promise for H2O2 detection, but there is still a gap between them and natural enzymes. A new design of synergistically enhanced single atomic sites for electrochemical sensing applications is proposed in this work.
