Fermi Level Pinning Dependent 2D Semiconductor Devices: Challenges and Prospects

Xiaochi Liu et al.

Summary: This article discusses the impact of Fermi level pinning (FLP) in 2D semiconductor devices and its causes. The authors indicate that FLP is mainly due to inefficient doping into 2D materials, vdW gap at the metal interface, and hybridized compounds formed under contacting metals. The article further explores the effects of FLP on 2D device performance and methods for improving metallic contact to 2D materials.

Engineering MoSe2/MoS2 heterojunction traps in 2D transistors for multilevel memory, multiscale display, and synaptic functions

Yeonsu Jeong et al.

Summary: This study presents a low voltage short pulse operating multilevel memory based on van der Waals heterostack n-MoSe2/n-MoS2 channel field-effect transistors. The memory FET utilizes the gate voltage induced trapping/de-trapping phenomena for Program/Erase functioning and achieves long-term retention thanks to the heterojunction energy barrier. By modulating the trapped electron density, the device achieves multilevel long-term memory. Practical demonstrations show different levels of drain current visualized with multiscale light emissions and the device is also applied to synapse-imitating neuromorphic memory.

Graphene on SiC as a promising platform for magnetic field detection under neutron irradiation

Semir El-Ahmar et al.

Summary: This paper presents the first experimental study on the effect of neutron radiation on quasi-free-standing (QFS) graphene. The results show that the graphene sheet is moderately affected by neutron radiation, with a low defect density. The electrical properties of the graphene system are maintained, making it a promising platform for magnetic diagnostics in magnetic-confinement fusion reactors. However, the scope of its use requires further investigation.

Contamination-induced inhomogeneity of noise sources distribution in Al2O3-passivated quasi-free-standing graphene on 4H-SiC(0001)

T. Ciuk et al.

Summary: This report introduces a novel method based on low-frequency noise analysis for evaluating the quality and pattern of inhomogeneity in intentionally-aged Hall effect sensors. By comparing the measured noise with the calculated noise for a homogeneous sensor, we speculate about the presence of unintentional contamination in the active regions of the sensors. Through in-depth structural characterization, we discover that the graphene's characteristics and interface make it susceptible to uncontrolled contamination, leading to blistering of the material.

Adsorption of ethylene oxide on doped monolayers of MoS2: A DFT study

Maciej J. Szary

Summary: DFT calculations were used to investigate the doping of Ti, Ni, Pd, and Si atoms into an S-vacancy of MoS2 monolayer and their impact on sensitivity towards ethylene oxide. The study found that the doped MoS2 showed stronger binding with EO and an adsorption-sensitive band gap, suggesting potential for detection. Additionally, different modes of detection were proposed for Ti and Si doped MoS2.
