MOF-Derived Cobalt@Mesoporous Carbon as Electrocatalysts for Oxygen Evolution Reaction: Impact of Organic Linker

Aymen S. Abu Hatab et al.

Summary: Water electrolysis is a green route for energy generation, but the slow oxygen evolution reaction (OER) increases the reaction overpotential. This study developed Co-based nanomaterials as cost-effective and highly efficient catalysts for OER. Among the synthesized Co-based metal-organic frameworks, Co/MC-2MeIM showed the highest surface area and expressed the best catalytic performance in alkaline medium. The superior performance is attributed to the high content of Co3+ on the surface, high surface area, enhanced electrical conductivity induced by nitrogen doping, and the presence of defects.

Critical review on the synthesis, characterization, and application of highly efficient metal chalcogenide catalysts for fuel cells

Tasnim Eisa et al.

Summary: This review article explores the unique capabilities of metal chalcogenides (MC) as tailored catalysts in fuel cells. By controlling their morphology and quantity, MC catalysts can enhance the performance of fuel cells. As anodic catalysts, MCs can efficiently oxidize various fuels, while hindering the formation of poisonous species. As cathodic catalysts, MCs exhibit selective reduction of oxygen and provide current values similar to noble metal catalysts.

Constructing collaborative interface between Mo2N and NiS as efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting

Yan Zang et al.

Summary: A hybrid Mo2N/NiS heterojunction with synergistic effect is developed as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for high-efficiency water splitting in alkaline media. The Mo2N/NiS hybrids exhibit enhanced electrocatalytic activities for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to the synergistic effect between Mo2N and NiS. Furthermore, the Mo2N/NiS hybrids demonstrate excellent long-term durability and have a favorable solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion efficiency.

Emerging cocatalysts in TiO2-based photocatalysts for light-driven catalytic hydrogen evolution: Progress and perspectives

Changlei Xia et al.

Summary: TiO2-based photocatalysts have been crucial for solar-driven hydrogen production, but the poor separation of electron-hole pairs has limited their activity. Coupling with cocatalysts can effectively suppress charge recombination and enhance active centers for boosting H-2 evolution performance.

High energy storage quasi-solid-state supercapacitor enabled by metal chalcogenide nanowires and iron-based nitrogen-doped graphene nanostructures

Ahmed Bahaa et al.

Summary: A hierarchical cobalt selenide nanowire array was designed to serve as the positive electrode for asymmetric supercapacitors, offering enhanced electrical conductivity and short ion diffusion. The obtained cobalt selenide nanowire electrode demonstrated outstanding electrochemical features with high-rate performance and stability. Additionally, an iron titanium nitride@nitrogendoped graphene was prepared as the negative electrode, resulting in an energy density of 91.8 W h kg(-1) and capacity retention of 94.6% over 10,000 cycles for the asymmetric supercapacitors. These results provide an efficient strategy for developing redox-ambitious active materials with high capacity for advanced energy-storage systems.

Localized thermal spike driven morphology and electronic structure transformation in swift heavy ion irradiated TiO2 nanorods

Sutapa Dey et al.

Summary: The irradiation of TiO2 nanorods by 100 MeV Ag ions results in structural distortion and corrugated surface due to the rapid quenching of thermal spikes. The optical absorption study reveals changes in bandgap values with different fluences, and first principles calculations confirm the direct-to-indirect transition attributed to structural distortion at the highest fluence. This work demonstrates a unique technique to selectively tune the properties of nanorods for various applications.
