Binder-free vertical graphene nanosheets templated NiO petals for high- performance supercapacitor applications

V. Madhav Kumar et al.

Summary: A method for fabricating binder-free supercapacitor electrodes of NiO petals templated by vertical graphene nanosheets (VGN) was reported in this study. The morphology, microstructure, and stoichiometry of the NiO petals were greatly influenced by the background O2 pressure and deposition temperature. The VGN templated growth facilitated NiO with high surface area, resulting in a approximately 2.5 times higher areal capacitance compared to NiO directly grown on carbon paper substrate without VGN.

Vanadium oxide nanorods as an electrode material for solid state supercapacitor

Amrita Jain et al.

Summary: Metal oxides, particularly vanadium oxide, are attractive for supercapacitor applications due to their excellent electrochemical properties. In this study, vanadium oxide nanorods were successfully synthesized using a modified sol-gel technique at low temperature. The nanorods were characterized using various techniques, and were tested with a magnesium ion based polymer gel electrolyte for the first time. The prepared supercapacitor cell exhibited high capacitance, power density, and energy density, along with excellent rate capability and cycling stability.

Boosting the capacitive property of cobalt sulfide through interface engineering for high-performance supercapacitors

Yanyan Fang et al.

Summary: Metal sulfide arrays have high theoretical capacity and electrochemical sites, but their sluggish redox reaction limits their application in high power density devices. A novel hybrid and hierarchical nanostructure with a thin layer of NiO deposited on CoS particles greatly improves the capacitive properties of cobalt sulfide. The NiO/CoS hybrid supercapacitor demonstrates high capacitance, energy density, and cycling stability.

Peipei Li et al.

Summary: A high-performance MOS gas sensor based on Cr-doped NiO nanoparticles was reported for the detection of ppb-level benzyl mercaptan, showing excellent selectivity against interfering VOCs and remarkable stability after long-term measurements. The superior performance of the sensor can be attributed to the electron transfer among Ni-O-Cr bonds, defective oxygen, and chemical adsorption oxygen after Cr doping.

Summary: By synthesizing zinc oxide nanowires of different lengths, the relationship between surface morphology and electrochemical performance was studied, with the finding that increasing the length of the nanowires contributes to a decrease in electrochemical performance. A new strategy combining nanowires and microsheets was proposed to improve the morphology for enhanced electrochemical performance.
