One-step preparation of MoOX/ZnS/ZnO composite and its excellent performance in piezocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B under ultrasonic vibration

Song Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper synthesized a new type of ternary piezoelectric catalyst MoOX/ZnS/ZnO (MZZ) and studied its catalytic degradation performance of Rhodamine B solution. The results showed that the MZZ catalyst exhibited excellent piezoelectric catalytic activity due to its core-shell structure and heterojunction structure.

Novel Bi2WO6/ZnSnO3 heterojunction for the ultrasonic-vibration-driven piezocatalytic degradation of RhB

Chunran Zhao et al.

Summary: This study designed and prepared a new piezoelectric catalytic nanomaterial, Bi2WO6/ZnSnO3, and applied it in piezocatalytic water purification. Results showed that the composite had superior piezocatalytic efficiency and stability in rhodamine B (RhB) degradation under ultrasonic vibration. The improved performance was attributed to the enhanced specific surface area, facilitated piezocatalytic reaction, and the formation of type-II heterojunction structures between Bi2WO6 and ZnSnO3, which improved the separation efficiency of charge carriers and greatly enhanced the piezoelectric catalytic activity.

The Mechanism of Piezocatalysis: Energy Band Theory or Screening Charge Effect?

Kai Wang et al.

Summary: Piezocatalysis, a novel catalysis technology based on the piezopotential and piezoelectric properties of catalysts, is receiving significant attention for applications in energy conversion, organic synthesis, and environmental remediation. Currently, there are two main theories used to explain piezocatalysis: energy band theory and screening charge effect.

Ball milling induced strong polarization electric fields in Cu3B2O6 crystals for high efficiency piezocatalysis

Xiaomin Liao et al.

Summary: The mechanical degradation of Cu3B2O6 (CBO) through ball milling (BM) is found to efficiently decompose pollutants. The efficiency of CBO under BM is significantly higher than benchmark BaTiO3 and CBO under ultrasonication, attributed to the strong piezoelectric field and abundant reactive species generated. These findings provide insights into the development of high efficient piezocatalytic reactions based on piezocatalysts and ball milling combined strategy.

Comparative study of chemically synthesized and low temperature bio-inspired Musa acuminata peel extract mediated zinc oxide nanoparticles for enhanced visible-photocatalytic degradation of organic contaminants in wastewater treatment

F. H. Abdullah et al.

Summary: Zinc oxide photocatalysts synthesized using banana peel waste extract as reducing and capping agents exhibit superior photocatalytic activities in degrading hazardous dyes compared to chemically synthesized ZnO. Various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques confirmed their formation and morphologies, with biologically synthesized ZnO showing smaller crystallite size and higher surface area. The environmentally friendly catalyst is economically viable for organic contaminant removal in wastewater treatment under visible light irradiation.
