Impact of Marangoni effect of oxygen on solid-liquid interface shape during Czochralski silicon growth applied with transverse magnetic field

Ryota Suewaka et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of the Marangoni effect of oxygen on the solid-liquid interface shape in the silicon single-crystal growth process. The results of a 3D heat and mass transfer analysis were compared with the experimental results. The findings showed that the Marangoni effect of oxygen influenced the predicted solid-liquid interface shape, and with its introduction, the interface shape and temperature distribution of the melt matched well with the experimental values.

Effect of boron on surface tension of liquid Fe-3.0% Si alloys

Lin Guo et al.

Summary: Based on Butler and Toop models, the surface tensions of Fe-3.0%Si alloys with different B additions were calculated. The measured results of Fe-3.0%Si and Fe-3.0%Si-0.5%B alloys at 1550-1650°C were in good agreement with the calculated results. The surface concentrations of Si and B tend to aggregate on the surface of the liquid alloy, while Fe tends to aggregate inside the liquid alloy due to their different surface tensions.

Effect of thickness of transition layer on the microstructure and properties of the titanium/stainless steel welds with oscillating laser

Yun-long Li et al.

Summary: Titanium/stainless steel weld joints with copper transition layer were studied, and the formation mechanism and distribution of Ti-Cu intermetallic compounds were analyzed. The results showed that the thickness of Ti-Cu IMCs decreased with increasing copper layer thickness. The tensile strength and elongation of the weld joints were improved using appropriate welding parameters.

Summary: This study investigates the wetting and spreading behaviors of magnesium alloys on steel substrates with nickel coatings. The influence of nickel quantity on the wetting and spreading behaviors is comprehensively studied for the first time, with the analysis revealing that excessive nickel addition transforms the spreading mechanism and diminishes spreading due to the formation of dense Mg2Ni intermetallic compound.

Improved properties and thermal stability of a titanium-stainless steel solid-state weld with a niobium interlayer

Jianxiong Li et al.

Summary: The effect of a niobium interlayer on weld strength and thermal stability in solid-state welding of stainless steel and titanium alloy was evaluated. The interlayer was found to increase toughness of the welds. Thermal exposure decreased the strength and toughness of the welds, but the interlayer improved properties up to 700 degrees Celsius.
