Mechanism and technology of laser selective removal of multilayer materials

Guiyang Yang et al.

Summary: An innovative method for laser selective removal of multilayer materials based on induced spectral coaxial detection was proposed in this paper. By integrating laser scanning processing and coaxial spectrum monitoring technologies, two-dimension (2D) and three-dimension (3D) element mapping were reconstructed synchronously in situ during the layer by layer removal. The method achieved a directional removal rate up to 99.13% and minimal ablating damage, providing a valuable guideline for selectively removing other multilayer materials.

Laser Structuring of Thin Metal Films of Compliant Electrodes on Dielectric Elastomers

Jonas Hubertus et al.

Summary: This report presents a new direct and maskless method for patterning compliant metallic electrodes for dielectric elastomer (DE) applications. Nickel-based electrodes with high conductivity and stretchability are sputter deposited onto pre-stretched membranes, resulting in a wrinkled surface. Using an ultra-short pulse laser system with a wavelength of 355 nm, an arbitrary electrode design can be directly patterned onto the double-sided coated DE membrane, allowing simultaneous ablation of both electrodes and selective ablation of specific electrodes. The laser structuring method enables the manufacturing of miniaturized DE transducers and the integration of optical features into DE electrodes.

Improving the conductivity of graphite-based films by rapid laser annealing

Gulsum Ersu et al.

Summary: This study presents a method to improve the performance of graphite film devices on paper and polycarbonate substrates through laser annealing. Four different methods, including spray-on, pencil-drawn, liquid-phase exfoliated, and powder abrasion-applied films, were used to create the devices. The optical properties of the films and the resistance of the devices were characterized before and after laser annealing. The greatest improvement in resistance (16x reduction) was observed in spray-on film devices at the highest annealing power densities.
