Defect electrons accelerate iron cycle of novel Fe-based Fenton: Long-term effective quinoline degradation

Weikang Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel Fe-based heterogeneous Fenton catalyst called FeSxOy-X was developed, which achieved accelerated regeneration of equivalent Fe(II) on the surface of FeSxOy-1:1 through abundant sulfur vacancy defect electrons. This resulted in a stable generation of hydroxyl radicals and singlet oxygen, leading to effective long-term degradation of high-concentration organic pollutants.

An efficient nanodiamond-based monolithic foam catalyst prepared by a facile thermal impregnation strategy for direct dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene

Guifang Ge et al.

Summary: This work reports a novel method for preparing a nanodiamond-based monolithic foam catalyst, which exhibits enriched surface C = O groups, abundant structural defects, and improved nucleophilicity. Compared to traditional nanodiamond catalysts, this catalyst shows higher steady-state styrene rate and selectivity, as well as excellent long-term stability.

Au nanoparticles loaded on hollow BiOCl microstructures boosting CO2 photoreduction

Siwen Gong et al.

Summary: In this study, BiOCl was synthesized and treated to introduce oxygen vacancies. Au nanoparticles were loaded to enhance the light absorption and charge carrier separation. The presence of oxygen vacancies and Au nanoparticles significantly improved the performance of CO2 reduction reactions, providing an effective strategy for photocatalytic CO2 reduction.

Recent developments in physical, biological, chemical, and hybrid treatment techniques for removing emerging contaminants from wastewater

S. F. Ahmed et al.

Summary: Various treatment technologies have been developed for the removal of emerging contaminants (ECs) from wastewater, with hybrid systems being found to be more efficient compared to individual technologies. A hybrid technique combining ozonation with activated carbon has been particularly effective in removing certain ECs, such as pharmaceuticals and pesticides. While nanotechnology shows promise, extensive research and development are necessary to fully and effectively remove ECs from wastewater.
