The effect of intermediate layer densification on the critical current of a Bi-2223 superconducting joint

Y. Takeda et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively investigated the effect of intermediate layer densification on the critical current (Ic) of Bi-2223 superconducting joints. The results showed that pressing the film samples to increase density can enhance the intergrain critical current density (Jc). Additionally, synthesizing an intermediate layer between two Bi-2223 tapes with uniform uniaxial pressure resulted in reproducible superconducting joints with high Ic.

Fabrication of Bi-2223 Superconducting Joint by Hot-Pressing Process

Yasuaki Takeda et al.

Summary: Superconducting joints between Bi-2223 tapes were fabricated using a hot-pressing process and a 24-hour heat treatment. Specialized equipment was developed to apply pressure during the heat treatment. Hot pressing yielded practical critical current even with a short heat treatment. The resistance of the superconducting joint in a closed-loop was measured at 7.3 x 10(-15) ? at 4.2 K, with an estimated maximum persistent current flow of 170 A at 4.2 K. Remaining challenges include purification and densification of the intermediate layer in the joint. Once these challenges are addressed, the hot-pressing process shows promise for high-yield fabrication of high-performance Bi-2223 superconducting joints in a short processing time.

Critical current improvement and resistance evaluation of superconducting joint between Bi2223 tapes

Y. Takeda et al.

Summary: By introducing a two-step sintering process, we have improved the critical current of the superconducting joint between Bi2223 tapes, and successfully demonstrated its in-field transport and ultra-low in-field resistance. This study provides an important technological foundation for the development of Bi2223 superconducting magnets.

Review of the temporal stability of the magnetic field for ultra-high field superconducting magnets with a particular focus on superconducting joints between HTS conductors

Y. Takeda et al.

Summary: This article analyzes the temporal magnetic field drift and fluctuations observed in MRI and NMR magnets operating in the driven mode, and explores effective methods for stabilizing the temporal magnetic field fluctuations. In the past decade, significant progress has been made in superconducting joints between high-temperature superconductors, enabling the development of persistent-mode ultra-high field magnets.

An efficient approach for superconducting joint of YBCO coated conductors

Daxing Huang et al.

Summary: This research reports an efficient method for superconducting joints of YBCO coated conductors. By etching microchannels in the YBCO layer, the recovery of critical current in the superconducting joint is accelerated, and a dense joining is formed to enable superconducting current path. This technique can promote the persistent current mode operation of 2G HTS magnets in applications such as magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear magnetic resonance.

In-Field Evaluation of REBCO Superconducting Joint

Kensuke Kobayashi et al.

Summary: We evaluated the joint resistance and current-carrying capacity of the intermediate grown superconducting (iGS) joint at low temperatures and high magnetic fields using a specially developed evaluation system. The results showed that the iGS joint has a sufficiently high current-carrying capacity at 4.2K in a 3T magnetic field and does not exhibit magnetic field dependence. However, at 77K, the joint resistance was relatively high due to a high load factor.

Magnetic Relaxation in Commercial REBCO Tapes With and Without Artificial Pinning Centers

Y. Tsuchiya et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the magnetization relaxation of commercial REBCO tapes from different manufacturers at various temperatures and magnetic fields. It was found that there was negligible change at low temperatures, but the introduction of APC resulted in different changes at medium and high temperatures depending on the manufacturer.
