Low-Power, Reconfigurable Brillouin RF Photonic Bandstop Filters

K. Girish et al.

Summary: In this letter, a novel approach to realize a wideband, reconfigurable, and tunable Brillouin-based microwave photonic bandstop filter using RF phase engineering is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The filter achieves suppression of > 15 dB for moderate bandwidths and maximum bandwidth reconfigurability up to 1 GHz by utilizing two pumps with specific powers. Moreover, switching from a bandpass to a bandstop filter is achieved through simple phase manipulations. The proposed filter is highly power-efficient compared to conventional Brillouin systems.

Optical Filter-Less Photonic FMCW Radar for Multi-Target Detection

Rajveer Dhawan et al.

Summary: Frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar uses photonics-based de-chirp processing to determine the range by monitoring the frequency difference between transmitted and received signals. This approach overcomes the limitations of traditional optical filters and allows for operation in different frequency bands. The proposed model is validated through theoretical analysis, simulation, and experimental testing, demonstrating its ability to detect multiple targets with high resolution and accurately estimate target widths.

Multiband dual- and cross-LFM waveform generation using a dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator

Rajveer Dhawan et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a simple microwave-photonic-based approach to generate multiband dual-and cross-LFM waveforms using a single dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (DDMZM). By controlling the DC and RF bias of the DDMZM, dual-and cross-LFM waveforms with a carrier frequency of 6 GHz and 18 GHz and a bandwidth of 2 GHz can be generated. The tunability of the carrier frequency from 3 GHz to 9 GHz is also verified. Experimental results show a range resolution of 6.3 cm for dual-and cross-LFM waveforms with a time-bandwidth product (TBWP) of 20,000. This technique provides a promising solution for dual-and cross-LFM waveform generation in two-band multipurpose radar systems.

Mitigation of Dispersion Induced Impairments in Brillouin-Based Microwave Photonic Bandpass Filter

M. K. Varun et al.

Summary: Interference based microwave photonic bandpass filters (MPBF) play an important role in modern RF signal processing. The presence of multiple optical components in an RF photonic system leads to degradation in MPBF profile and out-of-band rejection due to dispersion induced phase shift. In this study, we compare the performance of two interference based MPBF configurations under different dispersion conditions. The results show that the DSB-IM based MPBF achieves high out-of-band rejection and maintains consistent bandwidths, making it a dynamic and compatible approach for integrated microwave photonic systems.

Energy-efficient bandwidth enhancement of Brillouin microwave photonic bandpass filters

Piyush Raj et al.

Summary: We propose a novel approach to realize wideband reconfigurable, Brillouin-based microwave photonic bandpass filters employing RF interferometry and advanced phase engineering. The filters exhibit high selectivity, wide bandwidth, and low power requirements. The filters also have a flat phase response, zero group delay, and are not affected by Brillouin noise in the passband.

Frequency Response Tailoring of a Phase Modulated Link With Stimulated Brillouin Scattering

Mukund Jha et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to compensate for transmission nulls in phase-modulated analog photonic links by superimposing a stimulated Brillouin scattering gain response. The operating bandwidth of the link is increased and multiple null compensation is demonstrated. The method is also shown to have tunability across different bands and link gain improvement is achieved through balanced detection.

Photonic Generation of Multi-Band Linearly Frequency-Modulated Signal Based on a Dual-Parallel MZM

Dingding Liang et al.

Summary: A photonics-based approach for multi-band linearly frequency-modulated (LFM) signal generation is proposed, utilizing a dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator (DP-MZM) driven by a dual-band LFM signal. Through the nonlinearity of the modulator and non-ideal bias condition, multiple optical sidebands are generated from the dual-band LFM signal, leading to the generation of multi-band LFM signals with increased bandwidth.
