Pyritic mineralization halo above the Tara Deep Zn-Pb deposit, Navan, Ireland: Evidence for sub-seafloor exhalative hydrothermal processes?

Lola Yesares et al.

Summary: The study identified four mineral assemblages, indicating that the Zn-Pb deposit at Tara Deep in Ireland was formed during early diagenesis, under oxygen-poor conditions influenced by low-temperature hydrothermal circulation, and was affected by movements of nearby normal faults.

Characterisation of Pb/Zn Tailings and Drainage Waters to Inform Post-Closure Water Treatment Strategies

O. Fitzsimons et al.

Summary: Both the tailings and associated leachates were characterized to predict contaminant levels and identify suitable remediation strategies for appropriate closure planning. It was found that the tailings had slight alkaline properties, high net neutralizing capacity, and high levels of neutralizing carbonate minerals, while having low sulphide content. The constructed wetland treatment demonstrated effective removal of zinc and antimony, but the sulphate levels remained high.

Legacy of contamination with metal(loid)s and their potential mobilization in soils at a carbonate-hosted lead-zinc mine area

Xinyang Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mobility of metal(loid)s in soils affected by aeolian deposition and river transport near a carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn mine, and finds that interactions between nano-scale colloids and metal(loid)s may lead to potential mobilization and increased risk.
