CO2 fixation mechanism of kaolin treated with organic amines at varied temperatures and pressure

Qinghe Liu et al.

Summary: This study designed a clay-based CO2 adsorbent and examined the factors of temperature, pressure, and material cost on CO2 adsorption performance. The results showed that the CO2 adsorption capacity of organic amine-intercalated kaolinite was enhanced at low temperature and high pressure conditions, which may provide insights for the geological condensation of CO2 at high latitude positions.

Influence of CO2 on Nanoconfined Water in a Clay Mineral

Kristoffer W. Bo Hunvik et al.

Summary: Developing technologies for carbon sequestration and storage is crucial, and clay minerals show promise in this regard. This study investigates the intercalation mechanisms of CO2 in dehydrated and hydrated synthetic hectorite clay. The results suggest that intercalated water molecules create physical space for CO2 intercalation, and the presence of interlayer confinement affects the hydration of Na+ ions and may facilitate the adsorption of CO2 in the form of carbonates.

Gaseous Heptanethiol Removal by a Fe3+-Phenanthroline-Kaolinite Hybrid Material

Fabrizio Bernini et al.

Summary: Kaolinite functionalized with mu-oxo Fe3+-phenanthroline complex was found to efficiently remove and store gaseous heptanethiol. The continuous catalytic activity of Fe3+ towards the oxidation of thiol to disulfide explained the significant removal of the smelly gas and the high thiol/Fe(3+)Phen molar ratio.
