Temperature-dependent synthesis of multi-walled carbon nanotubes and hydrogen from plastic waste over A-site-deficient perovskite La0.8Ni1-xCoxO3-δ

Jingbo Jia et al.

Summary: Thermochemical conversion of plastic wastes into carbon nanotubes and hydrogen is a promising method. The catalyst design and reaction conditions play vital roles in the yields and morphologies of carbon nanotubes. Tuning of bimetallic nanoparticles as catalysts can enhance the efficiency. In this study, a catalyst precursor La0.8Ni1-xCoxO3-delta (LN1-xCx, x = 0.15, 0.5, 0.85) was developed to achieve in situ formation of bimetallic Ni-Co nanoparticles. The LN0.5C0.5 catalyst demonstrated the highest yields of multi-walled CNTs, attributed to its strong catalytic capability. The reaction temperature also influenced the morphology of carbon products.

Biochar-advanced thermocatalytic salvaging of the waste disposable mask with the production of hydrogen and mono-aromatic hydrocarbons

Chenxi Wang et al.

Summary: This study utilized biochar catalyst derived from corn stover to conduct catalytic pyrolysis of waste disposable masks, resulting in the production of liquid oil and hydrogen, as well as effectively capturing harmful dyes released from the masks. The biochar maintained good selectivity towards hydrogen and mono-aromatic hydrocarbons even after 10 cycles of reuse at 600 degrees Celsius. This study demonstrates a feasible concept and pathway of upcycling waste disposable masks through biochar derived from biomass waste.

Evolution of global plastic waste trade flows from 2000 to 2020 and its predicted trade sinks in 2030

Xuewei Liu et al.

Summary: China's ban on plastic waste, the Basel Convention (Amendment), and the COVID-19 epidemic have affected global plastic trading patterns. This study establishes the Global Plastic Waste Trade Network (GPWTN) based on import and export data from 2000 to 2020 and predicts future trade trends and patterns. The results show that the GPWTN has evolved from regional agglomeration to global dispersion, with Southeast Asia-Europe-USA forming the largest trade community. Germany is expected to become a key hub for European plastic waste trade, while countries like the Bahamas, Nicaragua, and Colombia may become primary destinations for plastic waste.
