Yibo Mu et al.

Summary: A novel CeSnOx/TiO2-E catalyst with ordered mesoporous structure was synthesized, which exhibited excellent activity, selectivity, and toxicity resistance. The ordered mesoporous structure allowed for high dispersion of nanoparticles, while Sn-doping changed the electronic structure and increased the charge exchange frequency, resulting in outstanding redox ability and abundant acidic sites. The synergistic effect and enhanced anti-poisoning ability of the catalyst were guided by the ordered mesoporous structure.

Solvent-induced fabrication of Cu/MnOx nanosheets with abundant oxygen vacancies for efficient and long-lasting photothermal catalytic degradation of humid toluene vapor

Shanliang Jiang et al.

Summary: The construction of highly-active photothermal catalysts with high quantum efficiency and superior heat resistance is a challenge for degrading volatile organic compounds (VOCs) under high humidity. A novel solvent-induced dimensionality reduction strategy was proposed to engineer a nanosheeted and polycrystalline Cu/Mn-based catalyst (M-Cu/MnOx) with interfacial oxygen vacancies for enhanced photothermal catalytic degradation of toluene under highly humid conditions. The newly designed M-Cu/MnOx catalyst achieved ultra-high toluene conversion and deep mineralization under RH = 80% and continuous catalytic reaction, exhibiting significantly higher toluene degradation rate compared to state-of-the-art photothermal catalysts.

Amorphous and homogeneously Zr-doped MnOx with enhanced acid and redox properties for catalytic oxidation of 1,2-Dichloroethane

Gong Chen et al.

Summary: A series of MnOx based catalysts were prepared and investigated for 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCE) oxidation. The RZrMn catalyst prepared by a novel reflux method showed improved acid and redox properties, leading to better catalytic activity, durability and resistance against water for 1,2-DCE oxidation. The catalytic oxidation process and formation of by-products on MnOx based catalysts were found to be influenced by acid and redox sites, with a positive correlation between total acid amount or OAds/OLatt and reaction rate.

Shilin Wu et al.

Summary: Anchoring MOFs in ordered mesoporous channels is a novel method to improve the stability and dispersion of metal oxide nanoparticles. In this study, highly dispersed CoFeOx nanoparticles were prepared in ordered mesoporous TiZrOx channels and applied for catalytic combustion. The CoFeOx@TiZrOx catalyst showed excellent catalytic performance and stability, attributed to the abundance of Co3+, Fe2+, lattice oxygen species, and strong acid sites.

Studies of sulfur poisoning process via ammonium sulfate on MnO2/γ-Al2O3 catalyst for catalytic combustion of toluene

Zhuo Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, MnO2/gamma-Al2O3 catalysts were quantitatively sulfur-poisoned using (NH4)(2)SO4, leading to a significant decrease in catalytic activity depending on the amount of (NH4)(2)SO4. Characterization results confirmed the stability of the catalyst structure when (NH4)(2)SO4 was used, but the declined activity was attributed to the adsorption and occupation of sulfur species on active sites, as well as the formation of inactive sulfate species via further oxidation. This work exemplifies a promising strategy for evaluating sulfur-poisoning deactivation of catalysts for VOCs combustion.

High-Resolution Exposure Assessment for Volatile Organic Compounds in Two California Residences

David M. Lunderberg et al.

Summary: Residences play a significant role in human exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), with emissions from buildings and their static contents being the main contributing factor. Occupant activities and outdoor-to-indoor transport also contribute to VOC exposures. Some VOCs exceeded chronic health guidelines, but exposures for other assessable species were generally below guideline levels. Even older buildings can substantially contribute to occupant exposures through VOC emissions.
