This paper provides an overview of the strategies for enhancing persulfate activation by heterogeneous cobalt-containing catalysts, as well as future perspectives of heterogeneous SR-AOPs systems catalyzed by cobalt-containing catalysts.

Enhancing the CO2 methanation activity of γ-Al2O3 supported mono- and bi-metallic catalysts prepared by glycerol assisted impregnation

Summary: This study improved the performance of Ni/Al2O3 catalyst for low temperature CO2 methanation by using glycerol-assisted impregnation and co-impregnation of Ru. The Ru dispersion in RuAlGAI catalyst was higher, and NiAlGAI catalyst showed slightly higher metal surface and better catalytic performance. Additionally, co-impregnating Ru significantly increased Ni surface area and led to a higher methane yield.

Composition-engineered LaCoO3-based monolithic catalysts for easily operational and robust peroxymonosulfate activation

Summary: This study reports the construction of perovskite oxide catalysts on monolithic supports for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation to eliminate organic pollutants in wastewater for the first time. The resulting monolithic catalysts showed large sizes, highly porous architectures, and compositionally favorable active components, leading to easy catalyst recycling, rapid mass transfer, and high catalytic performance in degradation of antibiotic pollutants. Optimizing the introduction amount of Ca and Ti resulted in improved catalytic activity and reduced cobalt leaching compared to unmodified catalysts.

Construction of fish-scale tubular carbon nitride-based heterojunction with boosting charge separation in photocatalytic tetracycline degradation and H2O2 production

Postsynthetic incorporation of catalytically inert Al into Co3O4 for peroxymonosulfate activation and insight into the boosted catalytic performance

Summary: In this study, Al3+ ions were incorporated into the lattice of commercial Co3O4 to form ACO catalysts, leading to a surprising boost in peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. The ACO catalysts showed almost unchanged particle size and morphology, which facilitated a reliable assessment of their composition-dependent catalytic performance. The Al incorporation not only enhanced adsorption affinity and electron transfer ability, but also promoted O-O bond cleavage of PMS, resulting in an enhanced catalytic ability.

Both systems exhibited high performances for SMX removal in various water matrices, highlighting the great merits of nonradical activation methods.
