Qixin Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, carbon dots with a hexagonal boron nitride/graphite (h-BN/G) heterostructure were prepared and found to exhibit excellent catalytic activity and selectivity in an alkaline environment. Experimental and simulation results indicate that the electron-deficient boron atoms at the heterostructure serve as the key active sites.

Chang Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a pyranoid-O-dominated graphene-like nanocarbon (GLC) material with high surface area, hierarchical porous structure, and abundant edge defects was successfully constructed through the high-temperature alkali activation of cellulose-based precursor. The GLC electrocatalyst exhibited excellent 2e- ORR performance with high H2O2 productivity and ultrafast wastewater degradation ability. These findings provide new insight into the 2e- ORR selectivity of carbon-based electrocatalysts for H2O2 production.

Summary: In this study, carbon nanotubes with single-atom Co-NX active sites, Co-NPs outside the tube, and Co-NPs wrapped in the tube were synthesized by the complexation-pyrolysis synthesis method, and the role of particles and Co-NX sites was explored. The catalyst synthesized with the new stratagem showed outstanding selectivity and ORR activity, and a natural air diffusion electrode fabricated using this material could produce H2O2 under neutral conditions without oxygen aeration.

Boosting hydrogen peroxide accumulation by a novel air-breathing gas diffusion electrode in electro-Fenton system

Yanshi Zheng et al.

Summary: By preparing a novel air-breathing gas diffusion electrode (GDE) with multiform hydrophobic layers, the problems of high energy consumption, low cathodic oxygen transfer rate, and low H2O2 production efficiency in the electro-Fenton (EF) technology can be addressed. This new GDE allows air to diffuse to the triphase interface spontaneously, improving the oxygen transfer rate and expanding the triphase interfaces to achieve a high H2O2 accumulation.

Summary: Electrochemical reduction of gaseous feeds such as CO2, CO, and N-2 holds promise for sustainable energy and chemical production. Gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) maintain a high gas concentration in the vicinity of the catalyst and improve mass transport, resulting in higher current densities. However, challenges exist in tuning product selectivity and reaction stability in the GDE environment, requiring further research and development of solutions.
