Understanding the role of mass transport in tuning the hydrogen evolution kinetics on gold in alkaline media

Akansha Goyal et al.

Summary: In this work, the role of mass transport conditions in tuning hydrogen evolution kinetics on gold was studied. It was found that increasing rotation rate of the electrode leads to a decrease in hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity. This is due to the accelerated transport of locally generated hydroxyl ions away from the electrode surface, resulting in decreased near-surface cation concentration and suppression of HER.
