Controllable construction 2D-CN photocatalyst for degradation MBT and mechanism insights

Xiuna Yu et al.

Summary: A nonmetal two-dimensional carbon nitride (2D-CN) with different thickness was synthesized by a facile hydrothermal and calcination method. The 2D-CN-7.0 exhibited significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity (82%) for degrading 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT), attributed to the ultrathin 2D structure that improved the transfer efficiency of charge carriers and reduced the diffusion path to MBT, resulting in accelerated reaction rates. Density functional theory (DFT) computation and experimental results showed no correlation between band gap and CN thickness. The research also discussed the possible mechanisms for the enhanced photocatalytic performance, degradation pathway of MBT, and photogenerated carrier transfer behaviors in detail. This study provides a novel strategy to control the thickness of CN for improved photocatalytic activity.

Gravity-driven Fe-doped CoTiO3/SiO2 fiber membrane with open catalytic network: Activation of peroxymonosulfate and efficient pollutants removal

Jiahao Wei et al.

Summary: A robust catalytic membrane (FCTSM) was constructed by uniformly growing Fe-doped CoTiO3 on a SiO2 fiber membrane, allowing for fast liquid transport and efficient organic pollutant degradation. The membrane exhibited great water wettability, low energy consumption for water transport, high rejection of oil in emulsions, and decent catalytic degradation properties under gravity-driven permeation. This work not only provides insight into multifunctional membrane design but also advances the potential applications of heterogeneous catalytic oxidation in environmental remediation.

Gravity-driven layered double hydroxide nanosheet membrane activated peroxymonosulfate system for micropollutant degradation

Muhammad Bilal Asif et al.

Summary: A CoAl-layered double hydroxide nanosheet membrane (LDHm) with abundant active sites was fabricated for catalytically degrading micropollutants, achieving high removal efficiency. The LDHm/PMS system showed excellent performance in degrading various micropollutants and was not inhibited by changes in solution pH during long-term operation. Reactive species, such as SO4 center dot- and O-1(2), were identified in the LDHm/PMS system, with both =Co and =Al participating in PMS activation.

Prussian White with Near-Maximum Specific Capacity in Sodium-Ion Batteries

Cheryldine Q. X. Lim et al.

Summary: This study presents a mild, low-temperature synthesis method for Prussian white (PW) using a common sodium borohydride reducing agent. The achieved PW exhibits a remarkably high specific capacity in a sodium-ion half-cell battery and demonstrates near-maximum capacities in complete full-cell batteries as proof-of-concept. The successful preservation of Na+ intercalation sites during a critical heat-vacuum-drying step is attributed to the high specific capacity achieved, marking a significant advancement towards the future deployment of sodium-ion rechargeable batteries in consumer electronic devices.
