Mesoporous alumina: A comprehensive review on synthesis strategies, structure, and applications as support for enhanced H2 generation via CO2-CH4 reforming

Mahadi B. Bahari et al.

Summary: Recently, hydrogen generation through CO2-CH4 reforming has been considered as a promising approach to reduce two major greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. However, catalyst deactivation caused by sintering and coke deposition has been a challenge. Therefore, it is crucial to design an efficient catalyst by selecting suitable supports. Mesoporous alumina has attracted great attention due to its unique morphology and pore structure, which can prevent sintering and deactivation of the active metal during the reaction. This review focuses on the synthesis of unique mesoporous alumina using various methods and conditions, as well as its applications and performance as a catalyst support in CO2-CH4 reforming.

Glycine-assisted preparation of highly dispersed Ni/SiO2 catalyst for low-temperature dry reforming of methane

Jiliang Yang et al.

Summary: Ni-based catalysts with glycine-assisted impregnation method were prepared and studied for the dry reforming of methane. The addition of glycine increased Ni dispersion and metal-support interaction, resulting in improved catalytic performance. Among the catalysts, Ni/SiO2-0.7G showed the best catalytic performance in the dry reforming of methane test.

Effect of interstitial carbon atoms in core-shell Ni3ZnC0.7/Al2O3 catalyst for high-performance dry reforming of methane

Qianqian Wang et al.

Summary: Coke formation on catalyst surface limits the efficiency of methane dry reforming. This study proposes a reaction-induced method to incorporate carbon atoms into nickel octahedral sites and fundamentally avoid coke formation. By encapsulating Ni3ZnC0.7 in Al2O3, carbon atoms can be stored and converted effectively, leading to improved activity, stability, resistance to coke formation and oxidation.

The role of Mo species in Ni-Mo catalysts for dry reforming of methane

Weiqiao Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism and coke-resistance ability of the Ni-Mo catalyst in dry reforming of methane (DRM) by using Mo-doped Ni and MoOx adsorbed Ni surfaces. The electron donor effect of Mo inhibits the carbonization of Ni, while the strong interaction between Mo and O promotes the formation of MoOx species. The presence of Mo-O species enhances the carbon oxidation reaction.

Tailoring the stability of Ni-Fe/mayenite in methane - Carbon dioxide reforming

Ruifeng Peng et al.

Summary: The study investigates the improvement of dry reforming of methane activity and stability by modifying the metal load of the catalyst and using mayenite as a support material. Introduction of Fe can effectively suppress coking, while mayenite as support enhances the transfer of oxygen species to promote oxidation of carbon species. Through synergistic effects of mayenite support and Fe promotion, high CH4-CO2 conversion and excellent stability can be achieved for the Ni-xFe/Ca12Al14O33 catalysts.

Understanding the Effect of Water on CO2 Adsorption

Joel M. Kolle et al.

Summary: Carbon capture from large sources and ambient air is an effective strategy to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Among the various technologies, CO2 adsorption is a popular method due to its energy efficiency. The presence of water vapor in air and industrial gas streams rich in CO2 has a significant impact on CO2 adsorption, with water acting as both an inhibitor and promoter depending on the adsorbent used. Further research is needed to fully understand the effects of water on CO2 capture using different materials.

NiW catalyst modified with C12A7-H- and its promotion to hydrogenation selectivity of hydrodesulfurization

Xuandong Liu et al.

Summary: The incorporation of C12A7-H- in NiW catalysts enhances the reaction rate constants and turnover frequencies in the hydrodesulfurization of dibenzothiophene. This is due to the promotion of reducibility and increased sulfidation degree by C12A7-H-, leading to higher hydrogenation selectivity despite a decrease in rim/edge sites ratios and Lewis acid sites. Furthermore, C12A7-H- modified NiW catalysts also exhibit higher HDS rates in 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene, attributed to the transfer of active hydrogen species and promotion of hydrogenation selectivity.

Dry reforming of methane over Ni supported on LaMnO3 thin films

Ohhun Kwon et al.

Summary: The study found that LaMnO3 films deposited on MgAl2O4 showed uniform coverage and maintained their structure intact after multiple redox cycles, with Ni also retaining good dispersion. The LaMnO3-supported catalyst exhibited higher activity and superior resistance against coke formation compared to Ni on unmodified MgAl2O4. The performance of Ni on LaMnO3 films was compared to previous results on other oxide films such as LaFeO3, CaTiO3, SrTiO3, and BaTiO3.
