Enhanced Catalytic Activity of Modified ZSM-5 Towards Glucose Isomerization to Fructose

Rahul Gautam et al.

Summary: The study focuses on incorporating Lewis acidic metal Sn into H-ZSM-5 zeolite through desilication and dealumination to generate mesopores, and investigates its catalytic activity for glucose isomerisation. The Sn(4)ZS(180)A(15) catalyst shows enhanced surface area, mesopore volume, and acidic sites compared to the parent H-Z. DRS-UV-Vis and XPS results confirm the incorporation of Sn into the framework of Sn(4)ZS(180)A(15). The Sn(4)ZS(180)A(15) catalyst exhibits high catalytic activity for glucose isomerisation, while the parent H-Z and Sn-incorporated catalysts without desilication-dealumination process show low activity.

Synthesis strategies to control the Al distribution in zeolites: thermodynamic and kinetic aspects

Juna Bae et al.

Summary: The activity and selectivity of acid-catalyzed chemistry are influenced by the Bronsted and Lewis acid sites generated by Al substitutions in zeolite framework. Close proximity of two Al atoms in high-silica zeolites can enhance the performance of redox catalysts. Various strategies have been developed to control the Al incorporation, including variation in extra-framework components, isomorphous substitution, and control over the (alumino)silicate network. This review provides guidance on efficient methods to prepare fine-tuned zeolites with desired chemical properties.

Influence of framework Al distribution in HZSM-5 channels on catalytic performance in the methanol to propylene reaction

Rui Feng et al.

Summary: The preparation of ZSM-5 samples using a two-stage crystallization method in the presence of glucose and additional post-treatment can improve catalytic performance and product selectivity. Nanosized ZSM-5 catalysts enriched in Al pairs at channel intersections exhibit higher aromatics and ethylene selectivity, while microsized ZSM-5 catalysts with multiple single Al sites show higher propylene selectivity.

Introducing mesopore and regulating Al distribution for improving catalytic performances of ZSM-5 in furfuryl alcohol to levulinic acid

Puxiang Yan et al.

Summary: Efficient conversion of furfural alcohol to levulinic acid was achieved using hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite (ZSM-5-OH0.2-H) with improved adsorption capacity and acid accessibility. This study provides an effective strategy to enhance the catalytic performance of biomass valorization, which is of great significance for achieving sustainable utilization of biomass.

Correlation of Bronsted acid sites and Al distribution in ZSM-5 zeolites and their effects on butenes conversion

Fengjiao Yi et al.

Summary: The relationship between Bronsted acid sites and framework Al distribution in ZSM-5 zeolites was investigated. Spatial confinement in the channels enhances the interactions between Bronsted acid sites and molecules. The aluminum sites at channel intersections have more space and favor the production of selective products.

Organic-free modulation of the framework Al distribution in ZSM-5 zeolite by magnesium participated synthesis and its impact on the catalytic cracking reaction of alkanes

Kang Chen et al.

Summary: The distribution of aluminum and magnesium in [Al, Mg]-ZSM-5 zeolites significantly affects their catalytic performance, and the hydrothermal synthesis method can effectively regulate the location of framework aluminum. The introduction of magnesium by this method inhibits the hydride transfer process, thereby increasing the yields of propylene in catalytic cracking reactions.

TS-1 zeolite with homogeneous distribution of Ti atoms in the framework: synthesis, crystallization mechanism and its catalytic performance

Zhen Chen et al.

Summary: The homogeneous distribution of titanium atoms in TS-1 zeolite (BUS-TS-1) synthesized under high basicity conditions through a bottom-up strategy leads to better catalytic performance for both olefin and alkane oxidation. Gripper-like silicon species can condense with Ti-OH to form stable Si-O-Ti species, ensuring the phase transfer rates match during crystallization and result in the uniform distribution of Ti atoms. This work offers a useful strategy for synthesizing high-performance catalysts by regulating the distribution of Ti active sites within the TS-1 framework.

Gripper-like Silicon Species for Efficient Synthesis of Crystalline Metallosilicates with Spatially Homogeneous Heteroatoms in the Framework

Zhen Chen et al.

Summary: This study presents an efficient strategy for synthesizing crystalline metallosilicates with spatially homogeneous distribution of heteroatoms in zeolite frameworks, through the crystal dissolution and crystallization process (CDC process). The gripper-like silicon species are identified to play a key role in incorporating and distributing heteroatoms effectively during the CDC process. This approach opens up a new perspective for the synthesis of heteroatomic zeolites by controlling the state of silicon species.

Catalytic roles of the acid sites in different pore channels of H-ZSM-5 zeolite for methanol-to-olefins conversion

Sen Wang et al.

Summary: The catalytic performance of H-ZSM-5 zeolite for methanol-to-olefins conversion can be properly regulated by altering the distribution of acid sites within the zeolite framework, particularly the location of Al. Specifically, aromatic cycle and aromatization process preferentially occur at acid sites in the intersection cavities, while polymethylbenzene formation is suppressed at acid sites in the sinusoidal and straight channels. The alkene cycle, on the other hand, can take place at all three types of acid sites with similar energy barriers and probabilities.
