Yaochong Tan et al.

Summary: This review provides a comprehensive description of the latest progress in ferroptosis research. It discusses the roles, functions, and therapeutic potential of ferroptosis in treating diseases from the perspectives of 11 human body organ systems. The aim is to provide references for understanding the pathogenesis of related diseases and inspire innovative clinical treatments.

Predictive value of systemic immune-inflammation index in recurrent urethral strictures

Emrah Ozsoy et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) in the recurrence of urethral stricture. The results showed significant differences in SII values and albumin levels between the recurrence and non-recurrence groups. Using a cutoff value of 252 for SII, the recurrence risk could be predicted with moderate accuracy. The study suggests that open urethroplasty may be more suitable for patients with high SII values to improve surgical success rates.

Systemic Immune Inflammation Index as a Reliable Disease Activity Marker in Psoriatic Arthritis

Ayse Bahar Kelesoglu Dincer et al.

Summary: The utility of systemic immune inflammation index (SII) in predicting disease activity in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients was assessed in this study. The NLR, PLR, MLR, and SII were significantly higher in PsA patients compared to healthy controls. There were significant positive correlations between disease activity scores and SII values. SII may be an easy, practical, economical, and readily accessible tool for monitoring disease activity and the efficacy of treatment in PsA patients.

Iron overload disorders

Christine C. Hsu et al.

Summary: Iron overload disorders lead to increased total body iron stores and end-organ damage. Evaluation of elevated liver enzymes often shows elevated ferritin and transferrin-iron saturation. Genetic testing for HFE mutations, especially C282Y and H63D, should be conducted for suspected hereditary hemochromatosis. Magnetic resonance imaging or liver biopsy can be used for quantitative assessment of iron content. Secondary iron overload can be caused by hematologic disorders, iatrogenic causes, or chronic liver diseases. Evaluation for the causes of hyperferritinemia should be pursued if iron overload has been excluded.

Relationship Between Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Ibrahim Ethem Guven et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the role of the systemic immune-inflammation index as a marker of inflammation in patients with irritable bowel syndrome. The findings showed that patients with irritable bowel syndrome had higher levels of the systemic immune-inflammation index, platelet count, and neutrophil count, while lymphocyte count was lower. The study suggests that the systemic immune-inflammation index may be a cheap, universal, and reliable indicator of the inflammatory process in patients with irritable bowel syndrome.

Iron disorders and hepcidin

Shilpa Rana et al.

Summary: Hepcidin plays a crucial role in systemic iron metabolism regulation and can be used as a predictive marker in disease states. Analyzing hepcidin levels and studying its therapeutic effects may aid in the development of new drugs for iron disorders.

Summary: This study found a close association between Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) and the incidence of cardiovascular diseases such as stroke and coronary heart disease in Chinese middle-aged and older adults. Higher levels of SII were significantly linked to an increased risk of ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke.

Broadening horizons: the role of ferroptosis in cancer

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death driven by excessive lipid peroxidation, and can be induced by various agents to suppress tumor growth while also potentially triggering inflammation-associated immunosuppression. The extent of ferroptosis's impact on tumor biology and its interactions with other signaling pathways are still under investigation.

Optimal serum ferritin level range: iron status measure and inflammatory biomarker

Ralph G. DePalma et al.

Summary: This report discusses the dual roles of serum ferritin as an indicator for iron status and inflammation. It highlights the positive associations between serum ferritin levels, inflammatory markers, and mortality rates. Lowering serum ferritin levels within a certain range may be beneficial for reducing cardiovascular mortality.
