Determinants of adherence to diet and exercise behaviours among individuals with metabolic syndrome based on the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation, and Behaviour model: a cross-sectional study

Dandan Chen et al.

Summary: Adherence to diet and exercise recommendations is crucial among individuals with metabolic syndrome (MetS). However, there has been a lack of comprehensive studies on the behavioral changes related to diet and exercise among MetS individuals. This study aimed to explore the determinants of adherence to diet and exercise behaviors among people with MetS using the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation, and Behavior (COM-B) model. The findings revealed that MetS knowledge, socioeconomic status, and social support directly influenced diet behavior, while social support indirectly influenced exercise behavior through coping and adaptation.

Effectiveness of Digital Guided Self-help Mindfulness Training During Pregnancy on Maternal Psychological Distress and Infant Neuropsychological Development: Randomized Controlled Trial

Xuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a digital guided self-help (GSH) mindfulness-based intervention in reducing maternal psychological distress and improving infant neuropsychological performance. The results showed that the digital GSH-MBI group had a significant reduction in depression, anxiety, and pregnancy-related anxiety symptoms compared to the control group. Additionally, the scores of infant temperament were lower in the digital GSH-MBI group.

Actively incorporating lifestyle modifications into daily life: The key to adherence in a lifestyle intervention programme for metabolic syndrome

Qun Wang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the experiences of MetS patients in attending a lifestyle intervention program (LIP) and the factors that influenced their adherence to the interventions. The findings showed that participants had positive and beneficial experiences with the LIP and that actively incorporating lifestyle modifications into daily life is crucial for adherence. Individualized education, regular follow-ups, and interpersonal support were identified as facilitators of adherence, while personal resistance, competing demands, and contextual factors were identified as barriers. Young-to-middle aged patients faced more conflicts with role-related commitments and were open to e-approaches in lifestyle interventions.

Using the COM-B model to identify barriers and facilitators towards adoption of a diet associated with cognitive function (MIND diet)

Deirdre Timlin et al.

Summary: This qualitative study aimed to identify components of the COM-B model that influence dietary behavior in 40-55-year-olds in the UK. The main perceived barriers to adopting the MIND diet were time, work environment, taste preferences, and convenience, while the main perceived facilitators included improved health, memory, planning and organization, and access to good quality food. Future interventions targeting capability, opportunity, and motivation may be beneficial in promoting healthy dietary changes.

Poor adherence to the Mediterranean diet is associated with increased likelihood of metabolic syndrome components in children: the Healthy Growth Study

Elena S. George et al.

Summary: The study revealed that approximately two-thirds of schoolchildren in Greece have poor adherence to the Mediterranean diet, which increases the likelihood of central obesity, hypertriglyceridemia, and insulin resistance. Prospective studies are required to confirm these cause-effect associations.
