Potential impact of botanically diverse pasture on the nutritional, physiological, and immunological status of grazing cows

Noriaki Nakajima et al.

Summary: The study found that grazing in botanically diverse pasture improved the nutritional and physiological status of cows, but it may also exacerbate the imbalance of protein and energy intake induced by grazing within 2 months.

Forming 4-Methylcatechol as the Dominant Bioavailable Metabolite of Intraruminal Rutin Inhibits p-Cresol Production in Dairy Cows

Yue Guo et al.

Summary: This study determined the metabolic fate of rutin in dairy cows using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. The most abundant metabolite of rutin in plasma and urine was identified as 4-methylcatechol sulfate, which has beneficial bioactivities. The competition between rutin and tyrosine metabolism resulted in a decrease in p-cresol concentration, reducing the environmental impact of dairy operations and improving the health of dairy cows.

Using MetaboAnalyst 5.0 for LC-HRMS spectra processing, multi-omics integration and covariate adjustment of global metabolomics data

Zhiqiang Pang et al.

Summary: Liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) is widely used in global metabolomics studies, but there are still challenges in data processing, statistical analysis, and functional interpretation. To overcome these barriers, the MetaboAnalyst platform has been updated to provide step-by-step instructions.

Alfalfa biotypes with putative enhanced cell wall digestibility and effects on performance of growing beef steers

Caleb W. Karls et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of three different alfalfa biotypes on beef steer growth performance. The results showed that the differences in cellulose concentration and digestibility among these biotypes did not have a significant impact on the daily dry matter intake and average daily gain of the steers.

Beneficial Outcomes of Omega-6 and Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids on Human Health: An Update for 2021

Ivana Djuricic et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress and inflammation are important contributors to chronic non-communicable diseases. Different types of fatty acids have varying effects on chronic diseases, with moderate intake of Ω-6 fatty acids lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases and Ω-3 fatty acids helping to reduce inflammation levels.

Effects of rumen-degradable-to-undegradable protein ratio in ruminant diet on in vitro digestibility, rumen fermentation, and microbial protein synthesis

Ezi Masdia Putri et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the optimal RDP:RUP ratio in beef cattle diets commonly used by Indonesian farmers. Results showed that increasing protein, energy, and RDP levels improved nutrient digestibility, ammonia concentration, total VFA levels, and microbial protein synthesis.
