Continuous-Wave Pumped Perovskite Lasers with Device Area Below 1 μm2

Jiepeng Song et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a record-small continuous-wave optically pumped perovskite laser with a device area of 0.65 square micrometers. The lower thresholds of sub-micrometer lasers compared to several-micrometer counterparts can be attributed to the enhanced exciton-photon coupling. Additionally, the operation temperature is elevated to 150K by reducing heat generation. These findings reveal the potential of exciton-polaritons in laser miniaturization, providing an alternative approach to developing low-threshold semiconductor lasers without artificial optical cavities, approaching the optical diffraction limit.

Organic Synthetic Photonic Systems with Reconfigurable Parity-Time Symmetry Breaking for Tunable Single-Mode Microlasers

Chunhuan Zhang et al.

Summary: Synthetic photonic materials exploiting PT symmetry are revolutionizing the photonic sciences. However, current PT-symmetric microcavity laser systems suffer from limited laser spectral bandwidth. In this study, a reconfigurable PT-symmetric microcavity system with controllable complex refractive indices is proposed using an organic composite material system and a grayscale electron-beam direct-writing technique. The introduction of organic photoisomerizable compounds enables dynamically tunable single-mode laser output.

Enhancing Alkyne-Based Raman Tags with a Sulfur Linker

Yong Li et al.

Summary: Alkyne-based Raman tags are useful for biological imaging, but their detection sensitivity is limited by the magnitude of the probe's Raman response. To improve their performance, we have designed alkynetagged compounds with pi-pi and additional n-pi conjugation using a sulfur linker. We demonstrate that the sulfur linker provides additional enhancement and line width narrowing, offering a simple and effective strategy for improving alkyne-based Raman tags. We validate the utility of these sulfur-linked alkyne tags for cellular imaging using stimulated Raman scattering microscopy.

Distribution control enables efficient reduced-dimensional perovskite LEDs

Dongxin Ma et al.

Summary: By using a fluorinated triphenylphosphine oxide additive to control cation diffusion and passivate surfaces, the efficiency and operating lifetimes of perovskite light-emitting diodes have been improved. Although reduced-dimensional perovskites show promise in increasing stability and photoluminescence quantum yield, challenges such as lower EQEs and inferior color purities remain.

Higher-dimensional supersymmetric microlaser arrays

Xingdu Qiao et al.

Summary: A higher-dimensional supersymmetry formalism was developed for precise mode control and nonlinear power scaling in integrated photonics, leading to high-radiance, small-divergence, and single-frequency laser emission in supersymmetric microlaser arrays. This approach also demonstrates the feasibility of structuring high-radiance vortex laser beams, enhancing laser performance by utilizing spatial degrees of freedom of light, and providing a route for designing large-scale integrated photonic systems in both classical and quantum regimes.

Li2MTeO6 (M=Ti, Sn): Mid-Infrared Nonlinear Optical Crystal with Strong Second Harmonic Generation Response and Wide Transparency Range

Xiaoli Du et al.

Summary: In this study, two new tellurates Li2TiTeO6 and Li2SnTeO6 were reported to have broad transparent regions for mid-infrared NLO applications. These crystals exhibited strong second-order harmonic generation efficiency, paving the way for the design of new mid-IR NLO crystals. The results provide a novel oxide NLO crystal with a strong SHG and wide transparency range.
