Tuning the p-type conductivity of NiO for the room temperature formaldehyde detection

Riya Alice B. John et al.

Summary: The present research synthesized pure Nickel Oxide (NiO) nanostructures with exceptional surface modification through temperature treatment. The prepared NiO was carefully tested for its morphology, structure, elements, and gas sensing abilities. The study revealed the sensing performances of various volatile organic compounds (VOCs), with a specific focus on formaldehyde (HCHO). Gas sensor testing of the prepared samples was carried out at room temperature (RT) and at different concentrations of the target gas. Among the different sensors tested, the NiO nanoparticles at 500 degrees C sintering temperature-based HCHO sensor showed the most significant response.

Ruo Yuan et al.

Summary: A novel ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor was developed using 2D Co3O4 nanosheets as a coreaction accelerator for the detection of miRNA-21. The Co3O4 nanosheets promoted the decomposition of H2O2 to generate more O2.-, which enhanced the ECL signals by reacting with luminol. Additionally, the biosensor achieved ultrasensitive detection of miRNA-21 through the self-assembly of highly ordered rolling DNA nanomachines.

Cathodic Electrochemiluminesence Microscopy for Imaging of Single Carbon Nanotube and Nucleolin at Single Tumor Cell

Huairong Zhang et al.

Summary: Cathodic electrochemiluminesence (ECL) microscopy based on luminol analog L012 utilizes multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as coreactant accelerators to convert oxygen and H2O2 into reactive oxygen species. The produced ROS oxidizes L012 to emit bright cathodic ECL illumination, enabling the imaging of nanotubes and nucleolin on tumor cells. By modifying MWCNTs with AS1411 aptamers, label-free ECL imaging of nucleolin on plasma membranes was achieved, providing a universal approach in single nanomaterial and single-cell imaging.

Ag-O-Co Interface Modulation-Amplified Luminol Cathodic Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence

Rui Zou et al.

Summary: Interface modulation between metal and supports is an effective strategy to improve the weak cathodic electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) of the luminol-dissolved O-2 system. In this study, an Ag-O-Co interface was designed to enhance the ECL performance of the luminol-dissolved O-2 system. The increased amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROSs) generated through electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) at the Ag-O-Co interface contribute to the improved ECL intensity.

Identifying Luminol Electrochemiluminescence at the Cathode via Single-Atom Catalysts Tuned Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Hongyin Xia et al.

Summary: In this study, the relationship between intrinsic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity and electrochemiluminescence (ECL) behavior was explored using single-atom catalysts (SACs). By combining electrochemical ORR catalyzed via SACs and chemical oxidation of luminol, the traditionally neglected cathodic ECL emission of luminol was significantly enhanced. This work is important for guiding the development of an amplified sensing platform through rational tailoring of the ORR activity of SACs and potential-resolved ECL assays based on high-efficiency cathodic ECL.
