Ionization of Dichloromethane by a Vacuum Ultraviolet Krypton Lamp: Competition Between Photoinduced Ion-Pair and Photodissociation-Assisted Photoionization

Yi Yu et al.

Summary: The photodissociation and photoionization behaviors of haloalkanes in the VUV regime were investigated to understand ozone depletion in the stratosphere. The ionization of CH2Cl2 under 10.0 and 10.6 eV light was studied. Results showed the production efficiency of CH2Cl+ decreased and that of CHCl2+ increased with increasing CH2Cl2 density. A kinetic model successfully described the variation trends, considering the competition between ion-pair and photodissociation-assisted photoionization. The study proposed new insights into CH2Cl2's photoexcitation behaviors and the importance of photodissociation in low photon flux photoionization.

Exploring breath biomarkers in BLM-induced pulmonary fibrosis mice with associative ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry

Xiaoxue Wu et al.

Summary: By analyzing the exhaled breath of mice using a newly developed AI-TOFMS method, it was found that acrolein, ethanol, nitric oxide, and ammonia are potential exhaled biomarkers for pulmonary fibrosis.

Ultrasensitive detection of trace chemical warfare agent-related compounds by thermal desorption associative ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry

Jingyun Huang et al.

Summary: A thermal desorption associative ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer was developed for ultrasensitive detection of semi-volatile chemical warfare agents. The excited-state CH2Cl2-induced associative ionization method showed excellent sensitivity towards CWAs, improving LODs by 2-76 times compared to other methods. The experiment demonstrated potential for significantly enhancing CWA detection in the future.

Rapid increase in dichloromethane emissions from China inferred through atmospheric observations

Minde An et al.

Summary: The emissions of dichloromethane in China have significantly increased since 2011, accounting for a large portion of the global rise. While the implementation of the Montreal Protocol has led to a gradual decrease in ozone-depleting substances in the atmosphere, the growing emissions of unregulated anthropogenic chlorocarbons, such as dichloromethane, are offsetting some of these gains.

Identification of Isobars and Isomers in Cigarette Sidestream Smoke in Real Time by Synchrotron Radiation Photoionization Mass Spectrometry and Multiple Linear Regression

Yonghua Hu et al.

Summary: This study successfully analyzed the chemical components in fresh cigarette smoke in real time using a novel experimental setup and technology, obtaining the photoionization mass spectra and photoionization efficiency curves for each mass peak. Several well-known chemical components and isomers were identified, and previously unreported compounds were discovered in cigarette smoke, while intermediates anticipated to exist were also observed and distinguished. A new simulation method based on multiple linear regression was developed to increase qualification accuracy and reduce subjective judgement errors.
