Inside Block Copolymer Micelles-Tracing Interfacial Influences on Crosslinking Efficiency in Nanoscale Confined Spaces

Christiane Hoeppener et al.

Summary: Several recent studies have shown the excellent capabilities of tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy in investigating the structural properties of matter with unprecedented resolution and chemical specificity. In this study, these capabilities were used to study the internal structure of core-crosslinked micelles formed by self-assembly of diblock terpolymer. Additional force-volume atomic force microscopy experiments were conducted to study the nanomechanical properties. The results revealed the underlying principles influencing the homogeneity and efficiency of the core-crosslinking process.

Structural and Biochemical Changes in Pericardium upon Genipin Cross-Linking Investigated Using Nondestructive and Label-Free Imaging Techniques

Tanveer Ahmed Shaik et al.

Summary: This study investigated the biochemical, structural, and biomechanical effects of genipin (GE) cross-linking on equine pericardium (EP) using optical imaging techniques and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Results showed that GE cross-linking led to a decrease in second-harmonic signal and an increase in autofluorescence, indicating changes in biochemical and structural properties. Additionally, cross-linking increased the Young's modulus of EP.

Monitoring Changes in Biochemical and Biomechanical Properties of Collagenous Tissues Using Label-Free and Nondestructive Optical Imaging Techniques

Tanveer Ahmed Shaik et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the potential of nondestructive optical imaging techniques such as SHG, RS, and FLIM in monitoring collagen degradation and assessing mechanical properties in tissues. These techniques can provide label-free monitoring of collagen degradation and rough evaluation of mechanical properties in a nondestructive manner.

Partners in Crime: Beta-Cells and Autoimmune Responses Complicit in Type 1 Diabetes Pathogenesis

Eliana Toren et al.

Summary: Type 1 diabetes is characterized by autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing pancreatic beta-cells, leading to insulin insufficiency and hyperglycemia. Understanding beta-cell vulnerability and response, as well as their contribution to disease progression, is crucial in developing potential therapies to delay T1D.
