A designer mixture of six amino acids promotes the extracellular matrix gene expression in cultured human fibroblasts

Laura Tedesco et al.

Summary: Skin deterioration is caused by dermatological disorders, environmental conditions, and aging processes. Implementing healthy nutrition, maintaining a balanced diet, and supplying adequate food supplements can effectively supervise the skin aging process. Comparing three substances (H-Pro-Hyp-OH peptide, hydrolyzed collagen, and a mixture of six amino acids), the study found that the mixture of six amino acids exerts beneficial effects on human skin fibroblasts, promoting the gene expression of elastin, fibronectin, and collagen 1.

Mitochondrial respiratory chain function promotes extracellular matrix integrity in cartilage

Kristina Bubb et al.

Summary: This study utilized advanced technologies to investigate the significant impact of mitochondrial respiratory chain on ECM homeostasis in mature cartilage, revealing that dysfunction of the mitochondrial respiratory chain can lead to increased ECM deposition and stiffness. These findings highlight the crucial role of the mitochondrial respiratory chain in maintaining ECM integrity and mechanical stability in cartilage.

Fibronectin: Molecular Structure, Fibrillar Structure and Mechanochemical Signaling

Caleb J. Dalton et al.

Summary: The extracellular matrix fibronectin plays a crucial role in tissue structure and cell signal transduction. It assembles into viscoelastic fibrils that bind various growth factors and cytokines, influencing ECM assembly during development and in disease states. Fibronectin fibrils have unique mechanical properties and interact with other ECM proteins and growth factors to transmit mechanobiology signaling events.

Crosstalk between mechanotransduction and metabolism

Patrizia Romani et al.

Summary: Mechanical forces play a crucial role in regulating cell function and behavior by modulating cell metabolism and impacting tissue mechanics. Recent evidence suggests that mechanical cues from the extracellular matrix and cell adhesion complexes influence metabolic pathways, highlighting the reciprocal crosstalk between cell mechanics and metabolism.
