Risk of Normal Tension Glaucoma Progression From Automated Baseline Retinal-Vessel Caliber Analysis: A Prospective Cohort Study

Timothy P. H. Lin et al.

Summary: Baseline retinal-vessel calibers computed by a deep-learning system are associated with the risk of normal tension glaucoma (NTG) progression. In a prospective cohort study, 390 eyes from 197 NTG patients were followed up for at least 24 months, and it was found that retinal-vessel calibers were related to the risk of NTG progression. The study showed that narrower baseline retinal-vessel calibers were associated with the increased risk of progressive retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thinning and visual field (VF) deterioration.

Clinical Significance of Albumin- and Bilirubin-Based Biomarkers in Glaucoma: A Retrospective Case-Control Study

Chong He et al.

Summary: This study revealed associations between serum albumin, bilirubin, and glaucoma, and neutrophil-to-albumin, neutrophil-to-total bilirubin, and neutrophil-to-indirect bilirubin ratios were elevated in glaucoma. Lower albumin and bilirubin levels and higher neutrophil-to-albumin, neutrophil-to-total bilirubin, and neutrophil-to-indirect bilirubin ratios were associated with more severe glaucomatous visual impairment, and these ratios showed good accuracy as diagnostic tests for glaucoma severity. These findings suggest that these indices might be useful as discriminatory biomarkers for disease severity in glaucoma.
