Clinical and imaging outcomes of cerebrospinal fluid-venous fistula embolization

Waleed Brinjikji et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical outcomes of transvenous embolization in patients with spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH). The results showed that using Onyx for the embolization of cerebrospinal fluid-venous fistulas (CSFVFs) is safe and effective, resulting in significant improvement in headache and overall clinical outcomes.

Brain Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension Score for Treatment Monitoring After Surgical Closure of the Underlying Spinal Dural Leak

Tomas Dobrocky et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the suitability of the brain MRI-based SIH score (bSIH) for monitoring treatment success in SIH patients with a proven spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak after microsurgical closure of the underlying dural breach.

Diagnostic Yield of Lateral Decubitus Digital Subtraction Myelogram Stratified by Brain MRI Findings

Dong Kun Kim et al.

Summary: Lateral decubitus digital subtraction myelography (LDDSM) has a high diagnostic yield for identifying spinal CSF leaks, particularly in patients with higher Bern SIH scores. This study provides Class II evidence that higher Bern SIH scores are associated with a greater likelihood of LDDSM-identified CSF leaks.

Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension

Wouter Schievink

Summary: Spontaneous intracranial hypotension is a condition characterized by lower CSF volume due to leakage, causing displacement of cerebral structures and neurological symptoms. Diagnosis can be challenging due to variability in clinical presentation, but can be confirmed through CSF pressure measurement.

CSF-Venous Fistulas: Anatomy and Diagnostic Imaging

Peter G. Kranz et al.

Summary: CSF-venous fistulas are an important cause of spontaneous intracranial hypotension, but can be challenging to detect on conventional imaging. Specialized myelographic techniques have been developed to aid in identification of CVFs, though further dissemination is needed. Knowledge of different imaging techniques is crucial in treating patients with spontaneous intracranial hypotension.
