Red meat consumption and risk factors for type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Lisa M. Sanders et al.

Summary: Observational studies have shown a potential association between red meat intake and risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D), but randomized controlled trials have not provided consistent evidence supporting a mechanistic link. This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials suggests that red meat intake does not significantly impact most glycemic and insulinemic risk factors for T2D.

Investigating Gene-Diet Interactions Impacting the Association Between Macronutrient Intake and Glycemic Traits

Kenneth E. Westerman et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify gene-diet interactions (GDIs) impacting the macronutrient-glycemia relationship in genetically and culturally diverse cohorts. It was found that higher carbohydrate intake was associated with slightly lower glycemic trait values. A common African ancestry-enriched variant reached study-wide significance and replicated in the UK Biobank, suggesting that a large sample size is necessary for identifying similar macronutrient GDIs.

Effects of Total Red Meat Intake on Glycemic Control and Inflammatory Biomarkers: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Lauren E. O'Connor et al.

Summary: The study found that total red meat consumption does not affect biomarkers related to glycemic control or inflammation in healthy adults, regardless of the amount consumed, contrary to previous hypotheses. Through the analysis of data and research methods, the results suggest that total red meat consumption is not significantly associated with diabetes.

Summary: Red meat intake was positively associated with CRP, while fruit and vegetable intake was negatively associated with CRP; blood collected in winter was associated with lower CRP; smoking intensity, BMI, and cardio-metabolic conditions were positively associated with CRP.
