The safety and efficacy of systemic versus catheter-based therapies: application of a prognostic model by a pulmonary embolism response team

Jean-Pierre Iskandar et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop a predictive model for in-hospital mortality in patients with high- or intermediate-risk PE managed by PERT and externally validate it, while comparing the safety and efficacy of ST and CDT. CDT trended towards lower mortality but with increased bleeding risk. Key predictors of in-hospital mortality identified by the logistic regression model included age, cancer, hemodynamic instability, and elevated NT-proBNP levels.

Heart Rate and Mortality in Patients With Acute Symptomatic Pulmonary Embolism

Ana Jaureguizar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between heart rate and pulmonary embolism outcomes and found that a higher heart rate is associated with increased all-cause and PE-related mortality. Modifying the heart rate cutoff in the simplified Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index (sPESI) and the Bova score can improve the prognostication of patients with PE.

Global Initiative for the Diagnosis, Management, and Prevention of Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease The 2020 GOLD Science Committee Report on COVID-19 and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

David M. G. Halpin et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has raised concerns about managing COPD patients and whether therapy adjustments are needed. The GOLD Science Committee provided an overview of COPD management during the pandemic, recommending caution with spirometry and maintaining infection control measures. Patients with COPD should continue their usual treatment but be monitored more closely if they develop moderate to severe COVID-19.

Summary: The study showed a significant positive correlation between the GRACE and SYNTAX scores in ACS patients. The GRACE score moderately predicted the severity of CAD.
